I played few hours of Mass Effect, got lost in some city and haven't played since then.I know it's a very good game!! I wish I have time and patience to wonder around the vast map

it's amazing, the maps do get complex you often need to dedicate some time to working out whats where, but great game, Garrus is one of my fave characters, and this picture has captured his badassery

About Mass Effect (by vast map I assume you're not playing Mass Effect 2). If you find all the fast travel spots then you won't have to walk around so much. I know, it got so frustrating for me as well at first (the 'running' is so slow!). If you're playing on the pc then there is a cheat to make you run faster, I think. Haven't tried it out yet myself but it might be helpful.
You should really try to finish the game once, even if it means ignoring all of the side quests. Knowing the story is so worth it as it is one of the best ever in a video game (I don't compare it to Assassin's Creed because both are too different and both are amazing)

also part of my "team awesome" in my second and third play throughs of the first game i took garrus everywhere with me and switched between kaiden and wrex depending on the missions i just started the second and recruited him first

the map is your friend! lol. very easy to get confused and lost your first play through. if you got lost in the Citadel? thank God for fast transit terminals DX (no need to wonder) haha

I had the same problem with my first playthrough. Then a few weeks ago, I decided to give it another go. I am now on my second playthrough of Mass Effect 2 (with ported characters from Mass Effect 1). It's an amazing couple of games, and I can't wait for Mass Effect 3.
TL;DR: Give it another shot! It's totally worth it.
