Description
Duddle 28... only I got carried away and did it up nice and (fairly) tidy and put some basic shading on and stuff.UFO/XCom fanart. Feel free to play Name That Gun if it makes you happy!
The armours should be pretty obvious, although I tried to make the Power Armour/Flying Suit look a bit less, uh, pot-bellied and tree-trunk-legged, and the Power Armour helmet went walkies for style purposes. I was going to try to make the Flying Suit look a bit more sleek and upgraded from the Power Armour, but I spent so long on the pic by that point that it fell by the wayside... maybe another day.
In case you didn't get it, it's supposed to be the same girl in each shot. I know that she's looks a little different in each, but c'mon, gimme a breeeeeak...

I saw this image on a video games board and saved it for artistic reference. I've had you on my watchlist for years, and somehow missed that you were the artist!
Great choice of fan art; XCOM is a great series.

Hehehe, poor little rookie with a stun rod... I remember that game fondly... 70% casualties on a good day, re-loading turns because everything went to hell in ONE round of alien shooting... Good times. And then you got your hands on some REAL firepower and started giving it back. You remember every time a mission reduced you to pounding your fist on the desk in frustration and it is SO satisfying to be on the right end of that whup-ass stick.
Rock on, little agent. You survive your first mission and you deserve every promotion you get. Make it through to the end and your name goes on the wall of heroes.

A personal fav. It shows the progression of your squad units as well. I really like the following expressions, although the flying suit is a bit anime-ized but its OK.

Great Work! True to the originals, and very stylish at the same time.
I myself got into x-com rather late. Anyone who hasn't played that game yet should give it a try... A better tactics game has still to be made.

The Power Armor needs to be more beefy.
it doesn't matter how petite the woman is, if a woman dons Power Armor, you'll look like a sturdy russian woman and everyone thinks you're name is "Helga".
Also, I lol'd at the stun prod.

then blaster for big stuff and fireworks XD

Grenades made great revenge devices though, for separated troops. Prime the grenade, but don't throw it. Instead when your character is killed, he drops the grenade and it goes off. :boom:
Also makes decent suicide bombers near the end of the game.

The Evolution of X-Com soldiers...
T-Shirts and Sticks
Survival Jackets and Flashlights
Body Armor and Guns
Personal Mecha Suits and Advanced Landscaping Tools
Also, I really, really love the expression on the "Shirt and Stick" one. It's "I'm supposed to be recruited from one of the world's elite soldiering units, and all I get is THIS?" all the way. XD

Sweet.
Hmmm... I played this one in German ages ago (pretty much when it was first published). So my guess is:
1. Shock Staff
2. Laser Rifle
3. Plasma Rifle
4. Blaster Cannon (Rocket Launcher with Waypoints, sweetest Weapon in the whole game :3).
π: 0 β©: 1
drcloud In reply to shoba [2009-02-23 12:01:34 +0000 UTC]
Yup, you spotted them all right :3
I still have nasty memories of blaster cannon shots going off in the middle of my men... which might not be so bad, but I'm sure half of those shots were fired by my own men in the first place
π: 0 β©: 1
shoba In reply to drcloud [2009-02-23 12:57:14 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I remember those pretty well. I found out after a while, that Blaster Shots are much more accurate if you only put way points in an right angle to each other.

Tscroggs In reply to shoba [2009-02-24 03:22:29 +0000 UTC]
What I thought was sweet was that I could put the blast launcher on a trooper, and then leave them in the transport.
Then I'd use another heavily armored, but usually less armed, trooper to 'spot' the target for the missile launch.
Let me tell you, nothing bets snipping an alien unit without ANY hope of retaliation.

She does look different in each shot but I could still tell it's the same girl. It just looks like her expression changes in each one:
1. Huh? Come on!
2. Eh... it's better I guess.
3. Now we're talking.
4. ~awesome~ <3

X-Com and X-Com: Terror From the Deep (and X-Com Apocalypse sorta) Are tactical combat sims, with base running additions.
You are a leader of X-Com, who's task it is to kick the alien presence off your planet. You start with a base, a couple jets, a handful of agents, and some spare change. From that you had to start by shooting down, then capturing, alien spaecraft.
As the game ramped up in difficulty you had to respond to alien attacks on the ground. Failure upset the country the attack occurred in and they would cut their funding to you.
Tactical combat in X-Com was ROUGH, and your budget so limited you really couldn't afford massive loses. You had to perform tactical concepts such as cover, converging lines of fire, line of sight, etc. To make matters worse, to maximize some of your research branches you would have to take some aliens ALIVE.

Nah. It's pretty ancient though, so you can pick it up fairly cheap... although the easiest way to get it and have it work "out of the box" is probably via Steam.

Sweet! I love that Game, Still have all of them, have to use the old computer though.
let's see...first one is standard X-com Kevlar Coverall with stunrod.
The second is Cydonian Alloy Plate Armor with a Laser rifle (I know it's Alien alloy but Cydonian Alloy is cooler).
The third is an X-Com power suit with a Heavy Plasma Cannon (so that's how it is held...huh).
Finally the last one is a Flying Power Suit with a Blaster Launcher (That weapon scares the hell out of me, even today :shudder: )
More X-Com should be done, there isn't enough of it around!
