Description

With the whole Splatoon 3 announcement and everyone drawing the inkling girl and salmonid, I remembered these two characters I had a long while back and decided to draw them again. I really love salmonids, so it’s nice to see them get more attention.

Left is Chummy (most creative name in the world ik) who is a chum salmon.

Right is Petromushi who is based off a sea lamprey.

While I haven’t focused on these characters very much at all, they actually have quite a bit of story to them.

Here’s some bits of info:

-Chummy and Mushi are really close friends and grew up together. Actually, they may or may not be loving partners. Mushi raised him while she herself was a child. She obtained salmonid eggs from a shady barterer, and Chummy was the only one who hatched or otherwise lived. Mushi always referred to him as “chummy” like how one refers to a dog as “doggy” or a cat as “kitty”, and the term kinda just stuck around and became his name. That’s not to say that Mushi treats him as a pet. She doesn’t. They treat each other as fully sentient beings.

-They live in a town that’s quite different from Inkopolis, so there aren’t any laws that dictate the coexistance of salmonids with other inhabitants. However, Chummy still has to be cautious when going outside because there aren’t laws that prevent the beating up of salmonids either. Generally, the people do mind themselves, but one can never be too careful.

-Chummy has no knowledge about salmonid culture. Mushi doesn’t either.

-They are both avid hightide era fans.
