Back in the day "excursions" meant a whole different thing. Today it means a bunch of foamers scrambling over each other trackside to try and get a single photo of a locomotive and in the process missing the experience of seeing said locomotive in action.

In the days of the W&A RR, the railroad ran excursions more for the joy of takeing a trip, then the need. It was simply a chartered train run for a special event or purpose. Equipment used non-critical. Sometimes they where run to bring the public to a scenic wonder. Or they were operated by the company for employees and prominent customers.
