I think the arrow through the heart comes from the whole cupid thing, where he shot magic, non-lethal arrows through people's hearts in order to pierce their souls with affection. Humorous card nonetheless!

I believe the whole stabbed heart has to do with Cupid shooting people in the heart with a rather non-lethal arrow that pierces the soul and supposedly spurs affection. Nice card and humorous nonetheless!
