In this painting I attempted to represent each of the four elements harmoniously beside eachother. To achieve a coherent image, I adhered to the fibonacci spiral, placing important focus points along its line, and dividing the canvas into parts consistent with the golden ratio. We can read this painting as a story from left to right (creation), or from right to left (destruction). In the upper left corner we see darkness that represents the obscure and unknown forces that begat light and energy. We can see this super-element in the centre of the valley, casting light and shadows around it. As the universe takes form in the middle of the painting, so do we shape the earth around us. We set ablaze the rock with fire and beat it into suitable shapes. Before the fire inevitably comes to reclame it and return all to the dust it was conceived in. All the way on the right we get a glimpse of a world in balance between creation and destruction. A sweet spot where liquid, tranquil water and still skies bring silence and room for life to thrive and breathe.
