Masters of ultimate knowledge from god... But not potty trained... *dun dun dun!*
You know... I'm gonna save you the "you're an idiot" rant and just tell you to google "religion used to justify slavery"
Come back when you have a 6th grade education... Cas siriously - We were taught about religion's role in marring abolitionism when we were in 6th grade.
Non-existent GOD I hate stupid people like you!
I mean Really! You could have taken 5 seconds to Google your idiot question and NOT looked like a retard. But nnoooo - I get the self proclaimed geniuses!

Well, aren't we an intolerant douche full of hate. I guess you didn't enough hugs and cookies when you were young. Oh well, another child that doesn't understand how to be civil and act like an adult. Obviously, you are not a good person by what you sad earlier -
"Good people are forged from rational thought, good philosophy, and empathy."
Btw, you never answered my questions. It doesn't matter now for it seems you let you ignorance and hate blind you, and why would anyone what to talk to a person like that.

It's refreshing to hear someone who believes in rational thought and reason. I come across too many people that care more about emotions and experience than logical thinking. It really is nice to talk with someone that upholds logic, thanks!
Have you read the Bible? The whole thing? Have you studied it? Or do you draw your conclusions from things that you have heard?

Good. So what are you basing your opinions on?
I've studied the Bible for years. My opinions on the Bible are based on research, evidence, and rational thought.
If you have read the whole Bible then you must already know that large portions of the Bible are NOT commands for us to follow but a record of what happened in history. You would also know that there are 2 covenants, an Old Covenant that was fulfilled and a New Covenant which is what Christians live in today. You would agree that Jesus brought equality where there was segregation and racism. American Christian forefathers fought against slavery because the Bible says all people are equal and created in the image of God. You would agree that Jesus chose to forgive the woman caught in adultery instead of killing her. And if you paid close attention you would have seen the intellect and science that is contained throughout the Bible.
I agree with you that religion has done many serious wrongs that should have not been. But that is because God created something good - people changed it and corrupted it for their own desires. God wants a relationship - people created religion. "Religion" refers to much more than just Christianity. Although Christianity in it's purest form is really not a religion, it is a relationship. Perhaps people in your country practice Christianity different than they do in my country?
In my years of studying the validity of the scriptures I've found that The Bible is good, what it says is true and right. It has been proven over time to be accurate and reliable in all the things it speaks about.

Oh no you're not seriously going to use that tired old line "old testament laws don't apply to modern Christians" are you? You'd embarrass us both if I had to bring up what Jesus said about that. It's a pretty famous line... Also- 1 Corinthians comes to mind in the stupid statements category regarding new testament church law.

What does 1 Corinthians have to do with it?
Clearly you have read the Bible but you don't see how it works together. What do these verses mean?:
"Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah," Jeremiah 31:31
"And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood." Luke 22:20
"When He said, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. But whatever is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to disappear." Hebrews 8:13
"for you are not under law but under grace." Romans 6:14
"But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law." Galatians 5:18
"Christ is the culmination of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes." Romans 10:4
This also speaks of the Old Testament when it says "letter", "And we have such trust through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life." 2 Corinthians 3:4-6. Actually, you should read the whole chapter of 2 Corinthians Chapter 3 because it puts it in context.
If you understood the Bible you would know that the Old Testament law was our teacher, so show us that we need a Savior (Galatians 3:24). The Old Testament was a shadow of the real thing that would come, the New Testament. Jesus did not abolish the law, He fulfilled it. And those who believe in Him are not held under the law.
It's not a "tired old line". It's what the Bible says.

Meaning the torah was "supposedly" no longer valid by biblical teachings - but that was NOT meant to trump the bible. You still follow the 10 commencements don't you? Those are valid are they not? And while the only passage that comes to mind is Matthew 5:17 & John 14:15 I do recall Jesus saying something about the moral validity of the Old Testament being valid. Mostly because Jesus used and also forsaken Jewish law to benefit himself. Keeping some- and denying others.
Not that I am surprised or impressed. The study of ancient fairy tales is one of the biggest dumbest wastes of time in the universe. Keep in mind all this imaginary malarkey is standard stone age blather- filled with contradictions, general stupidity, and vagueness. In fact it’s that vagueness that religion uses to stay alive all these years.
Jesus himself was a heretic. He claimed to be a Jew but never followed their traditions. –Therefore was NOT a Jew at all. Not only that but he died at their order- and didn’t come back in any way shape or form. Only Christians think otherwise. There seems to be a bit of an inconsistency there. But in religion there always is…
All sides claim that thousands of people bore witness to many claimed miracles that NO ONE of any other faith ever saw. Jesus rose from the dead and no one really saw it. God talked to Mohammad the Bastard .. er I mean Pedophile.. umm thief? No? I mean prophet- and again in reality no one saw it. Joseph Smith claimed to have read a new gospel written on gold plates - … out of a hat… No one ever saw the plates… Then he claimed to have spoken to god himself-…. After he got caught with another women in bed… Same way Mohammad claimed to have gotten permission from god to kill people, rob caravans, and rape women whenever he needed money or got horny. The same way Jesus would use Judaism and the Torah to promote himself – then abandon it’s teachings when it got him in trouble.
Also… Take for example the fact that ALL Christians are heretics of Judaism. So I ask you how does an apostate judge others based on morals they themselves bastardized???
That’s faith for ya! Pointless and full of lies. And to point out he obvious. Jesus never filled the prophesies of the messiah. He called himself that… But he never actually did any the responsibilities he was supposed to have taken on. Having died and not done anything- his follows changed the meaning of the word Messiah to fit Jesus. Someday look up for yourself what the true Messiah was supposed to be and do.
Here’s a hint.- He was NOT supposed to be the son of god… Nor was the Messiah ever supposed to be self appointed- the Jewish priests were actually supposed to apply that mantle to him. They NEVER did. Because he was never the messiah – ask any Jew.

You didn't answer, what is the meaning of those verses I quoted? The Old Testament had a purpose and it was fulfilled (Matthew 5:17), now there is a New Testament (New Covenant). It all works together.
Your statements about Jesus, Christians and Jews are completely wrong. Jesus fulfilled hundreds of prophecies. I can show you if you like. But I have a feeling that you will disregard any evidence or what I have to say. And for this reason I don't see the purpose in continuing this discussion. Even if I could "win" this discussion so to speak, it really means nothing because I can't make you believe in God or put your faith in Jesus. And I would be failing to do the one thing that is most important, which is showing you love.
I'd like to leave you with one last thing to ponder: What were the morals taught in the Old Testament? God taught people to be generous, to share, to take care of others, to think about others first and themselves last, God taught people to be compassionate, forgiving, merciful, patient, loving, trusting, and to deal harshly with evil things so that evil would not spread. God also set up social & economic structure that was appropriate for their time and culture. They were way more civil and morally good than the cultures around them. You are conveniently cherry picking all of the things that you see as negative in the Bible and ignoring the abundance of good things.
As Jesus said, "'You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Matthew 22:37-40
Thanks for the discussion. Have a good day.

Wow, I must say I find you an admirable person, most people reacts to these kind of conversations in a wrong way, turning it in a disccucion with verbal attacks of personal nature towars another person more than a conversation with logical and respect between two humans with differents views and comprenhencion of life (I must say that I fall in that bad habit too). I just wanted to tell it to you, I find important to say it, cause, you know, is important to say good things about others, and you deserve it, because of your polite answers.

I always found myself that if you can understand why anyone believes in anything, having these discussions become easier. I think the problem a lot of people have is instead of trying to understand why some people are Atheist, Agnostic, Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, etc...we're thinking too hard about how someone can be one of those when it seems that the evidence laid before our eyes makes it so obvious to why we're right. The biggest challenge we face in these terms is that we all want validation by others by what we believe to be true is indeed true. I know I don't have all the answers, but you know what, that's ok, we're human, there is no one on this earth that has all the answers, so I fail to see why it's so important for so many people to try to prove someone else wrong. Logically speaking, the best knowledge we can allow to ourselves is to understand what everyone on earth believes. I believe in God, but I will treat those that disagree with me the same as those that do agree with me. Doing anything else just makes no sense to me.

No need to feel bad. If you don't have a relationship with God then I don't expect you to understand. I've read the Bible several times, studied it most of my life. It is tried and true. I'm not brainwashed, I use logic and reason, I know how to think rationally. My experience is that the people who condemn the Bible usually don't know that much about it.

You should share your views though! You never know, there's been a lot of people that have told me some version of "wow I've never met a Christian like you before" or "I wish more Christians were like you." It's important for the world to know that you can't judge a collective of people based on a few bad experiences. I've had bad experiences with plenty of Atheists, but I know there are some out there that are very respectful of me, and they need to know that despite the fact I don't agree with their views, I still love them and respect them. We're all people, we all deserve the same respect no matter who we are.
