La Vie En Rose
(Steve x Reader)
--
“How was dinner?” (Y/n) asked, starting to clean up the dishes on the table and bring them over to the sink. “I was pretty excited to try something new, and it wasn’t that bad.”
Steve nodded, bringing his plate to the sink along with the ones that she didn’t grab. “It was pretty good. Something you should make again.” He told her, starting to wash the dishes. It was a nightly routine that either one of them would cook, and the other would do the dishes.
(Y/n) smiled slightly, making sure she packed up the rest of the leftovers to put in the fridge. “How about we get to the dishes later? I would love to just keep date night going.”
“I like that idea a lot.” He laughed, drying off his hands. “What do you want to do?”
She went into the living room, grabbing a record and putting it on the player. “I was thinking dancing?”
(Y/n) was an old soul much like himself, enjoying much of the same things that he enjoyed before he was the man he was today. He couldn’t complain when she wanted to do the things he loved to do, but he couldn’t help but think of the woman he left behind so many years ago.
Once (Y/n) put the needle to the player, the soft sound of Louis Armstrong’s trumpet filled the room and (Y/n) made her way over to Steve. “This one’s my favorite.”
Steve smiled slightly, gently holding her hands as the music filled the living room. “I love you, I just don’t feel like dancing right now.” He said, his smile falling as he pulled away from her.
She nodded, turning down the volume on the record player. “Steve, I know this is really personal, but why do I always feel like you’re hiding something from me?” (Y/n) asked him, sitting down on the couch.
He sighed, sitting down next to her and pulling her into his side. “It’s time that I tell you something that I have been hiding from you. It’s nothing serious, but you do deserve to know.”
(Y/n) looked up at him, tears already in her eyes. “You’re not gonna leave me, are you?”
“No, nothing like that.” He laughed under his breath. “Before I was frozen in the ice, and even before being Captain America, I had a girlfriend. My plane was going down, about to crash in the ice, and I just couldn’t help but think about how I never got to take her dancing.” He shook his head, eyes drifting down to his lap as he remembered Peggy.
(Y/n) sat silent for a moment, processing that he still had thoughts of a woman and what could have been. “What was she like?”
“She was a lot like you actually.” Steve chuckled, looking at his girlfriend. “She liked the original version of this song a lot. She also worked for Tony’s dad, and it’s kind of funny that you work for Tony.” He smiled and kissed (Y/n) softly on the forehead. “You both love red lipstick, and love getting it all over my face by accident.”
She smiled, the tears slowly slipping down her cheeks. “What happened to her?”
Steve sighed softly, slightly shaking his head. “She lived a whole, happy life while I was frozen. She passed away a few years ago. I got to visit her before she passed, and it was good to see her one last time.”
(Y/n) quickly wrapped her arms around Steve, putting her face in his chest. “Why did you never tell me?”
“Thinking about another woman while I’m with my girlfriend? You would have loved that.” He told her, gently rubbing her back. “But I love you, and I’m not going anywhere anytime soon.”
“You could have told me anything and I still would have been here.” She mumbled into his shirt.
Steve stood up, gently helping (Y/n) up in the process. “I think I’m ready for that dance now.” He smiled, turning the volume back up on the record player. “Do you want to dance?”
“Yes please.” (Y/n) smiled as Steve and her got into their dancing position; her head on his chest and his head on hers. “I love you Steve.”
“I love you too (Y/n).” He told her.
Peggy would be happy that Steve got his happy ending too.
