Months had passed with little to note, aside from Iona slowly growing larger, a telltale sign that she was pregnant due to their night spent together, and the mundane tasks ordered by the buckskin. To her they had plenty of purpose, but Bassi just found himself acting as a laborer once more. Hadn’t he run from overworking himself. Sure, it was worse then, but he couldn’t shake off the slight irritation, especially when Iona had instructed him on countless occasions to move the same damned object from one side of the cave to another. Why did she persist in placing crates and storage where she’d not want them? Bassi didn’t know, and Kari would just smile sweetly and watch him shoves things around.

It turned out for the better though, as Iona was not only preparing for her soon to come foal, but to make room for more horses, Bassi included as she couldn’t keep letting him share a communal bed with how he was apt to try and breed with both of them. He’d not tried her though, not once she’d grown veritable round with pregnancy. She would have kicked him for sure, but she was spared the harassment for the time. The cave she’d chosen as the herd’s residence proved to have a small door that once was sealed, and now opened, thanks to making Bassi chip at it for weeks and months on end. Beyond was a large expanse of rooms, covered in webs, dust and a few bones of humans. Nothing she touched, and had Bassi dispose of. Kari didn’t help, claiming she was too afraid of the spiders, so Bassi had set to it alone.

On perhaps the sixtieth day of repairing the damn ruins and inspecting it to be safe for occupants, Bassi had gone outside of the cave for fresh air. It was dusty in there, and the trade-off with cold fresh air was rather worth it. He’d found after standing alone in the cold that Iona and Kari had both joined him. None asked why he wasn’t working on the ruins though, and instead Iona spoke, “We were going to head towards the Star Peak Mountains, a few shrubs grow there around this time and it’s easiest to gather the berries.”

“Going to make some jam!” Kari added in a singsong voice. From her tone, Bassi could assume it was some good jam.

“Want company?” He asked, to Iona, ignoring Kari who didn’t seem to care.

“I suppose having a stallion to guard my pregnant butt wouldn’t hurt.” She smiled, before turning and heading off North. Not much for instructions, the mare knew well enough that her band knew what to do. Of course, Kari was the first to trot after her, blabbering about what things they could make and Bassi trailed a few paces behind.

They were fortunate that while it was cold, there was no snow, so aside from what had already fallen, travel was quick and wordless. The bushes Iona sought were in sight, and as the mare made her way to a small grouping of the now orange leaved plants, she heard a little whisper.

Two foals were lying under the shelter of the bushes, and once the two had noticed it was more horses, the blue roan filly had hopped out, “Hello!” She greeted Iona with a little nicker, looking much too small and unsuited for a Beorg born filly.

“Hello dear?” Iona replied as Bassi came along side and Iona circled the hiding spot.

The other foal was a black splash colt, but before Kari could get a better view of him, he’d stood and bolted, heading East, “Bye Risk!” was all he called as the filly watched him with a little sadness. She’d explained that the other foal was Grimm, but that he’d always been unsure about their travels in Beorg. He’d planned to go back to Aemenne where they’d both come from, but she was sad to find him not wanting to stay with her.

“Why did you leave the desert?” Iona asked once the filly had finished.

“Because I don’t have any friend there. I was hoping to find a new herd.” She looked Iona up and down, tilting her head a bit at the mare’s belly. Bassi had grumbled as he didn’t want another mouth to feed or talk his ear off, but Iona swatted him with her tail.

“Oh, well I don’t think it’s wise for you to be out here alone, you’re welcome to stay with me and Kari, /and/ Bassi.” She’d tacked his name on with a tone that told him to not complain. He didn’t. He wanted to. But he’d learned not to.

“I can stay with you?”

“Yes. If you’d like?”

“I would!”

“Then it’s settled, that colt called you Risk, is that your name?”

“Yeah. It’s a nickname of sorts, but I like it better, is that ok?”

“That’s fine. I’m Iona by the way. Would you mind helping me gather some berries? I plan to make jam.”

The filly had agreed readily, seemed she knew about the wonders of jam along with Kari and Iona. Bassi couldn’t wait to try it himself.

Claiming: Unsuccessful!
Looks like Grimm got a little spooked by strangers, and didn't seem eager to join your herd quite yet. You can try again, and your chances will be raised to 200/1000. With a score of 333, he's going to need a little more convincing.
