My entry to the contest: What if the Pokemon we know and love had been based on different animals or items? What if Charmander, rather than a reptile, had been a rodent? What if the Eeveelutions were based not on furry predators, but reptiles? Be sure to depict one or more Pokemon as something other than their official designs imply while keeping them recognizable.

For some reason, this little-known Pokemon appears to be closely related to the bird, Chatot, not only in appearance but in behavioral ways as well.
A beautiful creature, its multicoloured scales are apparent in both males and females, with little difference between the two. The general appearance is bizarre, with references to musical symbols present in its body. The barb at the beginning of its dorsal fin has the shape of a metronome, its tail curls into a delicately ribbed treble clef, vestigial fins in the shape of musical notes, and a bass clef pattern colours the forehead. The glittering, large plated scales on its winglike fins can be fluttered by special muscles to flash iridescent lighting to its fellows in the shoal, or to startle would-be predators. These wing fins are powerful enough to spread and use to glide above the water if it builds up enough speed to launch itself upward. Using this method of propulsion, Melodeep can glide up to twenty metres, or sixty feet.
Its most astounding feature, however, is not so much its physical appearance, different though it may be. It has highly developed vocal chords, and uses them to hum out long tunes. It uses this ability to communicate with other members in a school, or for offensive purposes: If one is kept in a glass tank it will emit sound waves of such a frequency that it will shatter the glass and escape.
