Description
Lore & InformationThe Berrysnatcher Fuzzbuzz, colloquially known as just "berrysnatchers", are a small, semi-migratory species of fuzzbuzz. In the wild they live most of the time in areas with open fields, low lying bushes, and little to no taller trees. For a very short nesting season the berrysnatcher will migrate to an area with more tree coverage to build their nests up in the tall branches. As soon as the pups are capable of walking the entire family returns to the shrublands. Unique to most species of fuzzbuzz, berrysnatchers have bulkier bodies and comparably insignificant wings, making flight difficult. They prefer to hop along the ground and only fly when necessary.
Berrysnatcher fuzzbuzz have darker shades on most of their bodies, with vibrant, warm colors on the chest, belly, and undersides of the wings. More varied colored berrysnatchers do exist but are less common. In the wild, individuals with colors that are too different will be chased out of the flock.
Berrysnatchers have very high metabolisms but small stomachs. To remedy this they developed large cheek pouches that can store a days worth a food in each. They are called "berrysnatchers" but their diet is actually a lot more varied. They also like to eat seeds, nuts, insects, and even the occasional tadpole.
Fun facts!
- Berrysnatcher fuzzbuzz are known to be quite curious and tend to cause mischief. Some evoloons even consider them pests.
- Since the pups are not yet capable of flight when it is time to migrate home, they are literally thrown by the parents from tall branches where the nest is built.
- Berrysnatchers have to spit out all the food stored in their cheek pouches to be light enough to fly. Because of this some predators are not actually trying to predate the fuzzbuzz, but are actually after the berrysnatcher's cheek contents
