I wonder why you would have to practice the lighting. It seems to be perfect.
I think there're some mistakes in the perspective though. For example the left corner, behind. But I guess you did that on purpose for the light practicing?
I also noticed the girl's upper right arm is a bit too long, that's what I guess anyways, forgive me if I'm wrong
I like the rest a lot! Especially her eyes and hair are wonderful!!

It doesn't seem like it's a very well lit room, so with that lighting in a room like that, the shadows should be much darker than what they are. A little more extreme if you will. Like over the shoulders, back of the head, under the ponytail should be almost black.
..this'd be easier to explain if I could remember the damn word for that kind of contrast of lights and darks.
Good start though. That robot thing looks like it'll be sweet!

can't give any critiques because I did never though of doing this, yet I whine so much that I cannot do shadows!

I'm kinda interest, or wonder... Are you able to do this with pencils only? Not color pencils but just drawing pencils. Because I find it hard to do shadow in greytone =/ In photoshop, you can add layer over another, but in real you cannot TTwTT which makes it harder...

This is really lovely!
I can understand you're puzzled about the lighting and everything, I have the same problem... :S I try to test it before sketching some thing. For example, I take a picture similar to what I want to draw etc. A huge procedure! I'm so ashamed of this!
See this I think that the light would go from the bulb downwards. Perhaps her head would be more exposed from forehead and down - not the top in any case...
