how do you go about coloring? like right after you see the lines you're gon' color, what do you do or think about? do you plan out the colors for the whole piece? or do you plan out the colors for your main character and then just base everything off of him/her/it? do you pick a color scheme for the whole piece (like this one i think is mostly that rusty reddish and that dark yellowish colors)?

If I see an image that I personally want to color, then I pretty much always know right off the bat what I want to do with it. Like, I know the general color scheme and mood I want to go for, and where I'm going to place the focus, etc.
I don't really plan this out though. If I don't know right away what to do with an image (which can happen if it's a comission, aka something I didn't choose myself) then I usually sit in front of it for a couple of minutes and toss some ideas back and forth in my head until I've got what I think is the best one.
Usually the images always turn out different than what I imagine in my head though. Sometimes more and sometimes less.

the mood...
of course!
i need to remember that instead of coloring all willy nilly.
