Well, this is the first ambitious picture I've done in awhile... I actually tried (drumroll pleeeease) ...a BACKGROUND..! It's like, a city. And some mountains. And some clouds. Cheap, airbrushed clouds.So this is a picture of my char Halcyon flying. It took me about 6-7 hours from start to finish, which is longer than I usually take... started out with 8.5x11 cardstock and a .5mm pencil, took about an hour or two to draw it. The rest was CGing with Photoshop 7... used 5 layers at the most. I tried to make the city look like it was foggy or something. And yeah, I gave Hal the same sort of details as in the Gothic Rei pic.. I'm trying to refine my design style. Yay. I like this pic a lot better, though, because it has much better composition. Like, the lower 3/4 of it doesn't suck. (like it did in the Gothic Rei pic.) I didn't waste any space.
I tried to use a blurring effect to show that she's flapping her wings. I didn't just blur everything to show general motion, as I have before. More effort = better, in my opinion. If you don't like my blurring, then that's too bad. I don't do it to hide my crappy line work, I do it to better convey the action in the picture. i.e., she's flapping her wings and it's windy. I don't expect to stop doing it any time soon.
That's enough ranting. I should do more backgrounds.

I'm new at this and i see you have so many comments already, makes me feel kind of small...but i have to say this. OH MY GOSH!!! THAT IS THE BOMB! You can work with motion blur...i can't especially when it has color. That is some talent you have. And one more thing...why is she naked???

this is awesome. the landscape is well made, and i love the perspective because the wires or something look like they're moving fast while Halycon is flying. nice work.(^_^)

The pose and action are portrayed very nicely, I like the design of those straps. The background is great, the angle of it really adds a lot.

First things first, those wings are really cool. Secondly, I like the pose, you used really neat perspective, particularly in the belts and the arms. Thirdly, this is one of the only occasions where I actually like someone's use of Photoshop effects. The blurring works really well in this picture, while if I had seen it used any other way, or in another picture, I probably would of thought it looked cheap. Yay!

That's some fantastic stuff there. If I had the money to spare I would toss it your way so I could get a print of this for my wall. This would also make a tight wallscroll. The perspective is right on and damn can you do blur and make it look good. I am just not terribly good at that. Well it's getting late and I could type all night but I better get to bed. Nice. I'd be reiterating pretty much everyone else who has praised and ooh'd and ahh'd this piece, but I think you know it deserves it. It's really the background which does it, in my opinion. You can really tell you put some significant effort into it. The fog is a nice touch, as well as the black border [nice frame]. And do'n't worry about the complaints about the blur. You had a legitimate reason for using it, and I believe you used it rather well. Overall, well composed. Congrats!
