Description It's what I do best.

Not really much to say about this one; it started as a fractal from a random batch and got morphed into something more. I'm happy with how it turned out. I don't see many fractals that are very "messy" or explore something other than rigid mathematical ideals. That's not to say that others should make art that doesn't appeal to them--I'd just love to see other willing people explore less rigidly defined fractals. Hope that makes sense.

Swirly 'Messy' as it is, it's still a beauty to the eyes

Good to know. It's not generally the kind of fractal art that's easily accepted, because it's so messy. It's good to know that you still think it's beautiful.

you mean people ought to try something different than just a geometric pattern? Something that doesn't adhere to the "norm"?
I used to be pretty decent at that!

I bet you still are.

Thanks for the comment!

I don't know if I have the patience. Some of the last fractals I played with had 32 hour rendering times. Not to mention that this comp is a dual core, and it will still take that long!

I'm well acquainted with the long render blues! Before I built this computer, I had one that used to routinely take 14-24 hours to render. God forbid if I decided to render something big enough for printing; "Feathers" took 475 hours when I rendered it!

I thought this comp would take care of me for quite a while. It's a dual core Athlon 5600+ with 3 Gigs of Ram. Normally I build my own, but this last time I just bought an HP off the shelf. Does anything with photos and video fine. It's just rendering time in Apo is nuts! I really haven't had any problems as such with Vista.

I'm waiting for mine to become obsolete.

Well, Vista does use up a lot of RAM . . . that's about the only reason I can think of for it being so slow, though. Some former computer scientist I am!

I was thinking seriously about beefing up my old thunderbird machine, with some more Ram, than running Linux on it and trying to render fractals on it.

I'd be worried about compatibility issues with WINE, but otherwise it's a great idea! I hear the Fabers run Apophysis through WINE on Linux computers, so surely there won't be too many issues.

Well, the old comp isn't any kind of a rocket sled, but as far as I'm concerned if I do that it can sit there and grind for a week, I won't care. I may just do some fractals again yet...

Meh, it's okay. If there are any criticisms you want to voice, though, please don't hesitate--you won't offend me.

Great idea going with the triptych format to show the three designs. Each fractal isn't anything amazing, but seeing all three together, you start to appreciate the patterns, flowing motions, and textures associated with each.

Thank you. Any specific points that jump out at you as to why they aren't anything special? Or is it just the messiness of them?

Phoenix-22 In reply to fanficbug [2009-01-11 17:39:13 +0000 UTC]

All three are big, swirling masses, almost like a tornado. Now that I look at it again, I almost see a tornado starting out and then dying away.

Well, I hope it continues to improve on closer inspection.
