Description
Ok, ok! I did this because I didn't find anything about Gimp tutorials around here. And, if you guys ask the continuation, there is a few things that I may teach:
-Highlights on hair
-Cloth
-Long hair
-Background
EDIT: Apologizes and comments
First, my apologizes. I promised the continuation of this tutorial, but I didn't post anything yet. I will make the continuation when I buy my computer, and that can be in the end of the month. So no worries.
Secondly, I must warn about an english error that I made on that tutorial. Where I wrote the word ABOVE, please read UNDER, ok? Every ABOVE word there actually is meaning UNDER.
Thanks

Oooh! You're from Germany! ^^
I never went there, but as I hear and read, it's a nice country.
Translating what?

In my opinion, there are nice places and some not.. But I guess it's like that everywhere..
I tried it and imo, it looks good^^ But I had problems with the Magic Wand, when I did it like that, always the complete Layer changed the color xD After 30minutes of trying, I gave up and just painted it^^ (*Tablet-using is*) I think I just did something wrong oO (Or it doesn't work with the new GIMP)
Anyway, it's a nice method to color

FastSpeedy In reply to xSoma [2009-01-02 16:47:21 +0000 UTC]
Yes, there are good and bad places everywhere. ^^
Oh, the Magic Wand? It's simple. On the lineart layer (with the lineart only, in transparent background), use the Wand to select the areas you want to color. Then you change to the layer where you will put the color. You always will need to go to the lineart layer to select the areas, because the Wand can just understand that there's is different areas on that layer. Then you use the selection that the tool created to go to another layer and fill with color.
Anyway, since I got my tablet, I think it looks better using it. It looks more well done. ^^

Yea, seems to be so easy but it just won't work. *sigh* It worked once, but I did something wrong then and I didn't get it again. Sure I forgot something ^^

Aww... I hope you can do it again. ^^
Anyway, using the tablet still the better option.

I knew that I would mistake some tools names...
My GIMP is in portuguese, so some of them I don't remember in English (at least not the true name of those tools in the English version). Anyway, I hope you can understand ^^

For the English versions of GIMP, for the Path tool part, the button is "Stroke Pathg"
Hope that helped :3

This is good, especially for GIMP. But I find that redder tones tend to look good for skin shading -- black looks kind of diseased. XD

oh! that's fine! it's good to try with other colors. I just used that one because it was the darker version of the color. But that's ok. You can use it with any color.

when you start the coloring part and you say go to selection> expand selection..where is selection button??

FastSpeedy In reply to malitant [2008-07-30 16:09:56 +0000 UTC]
you use the Magic Wand Tool. I forgot the quick button for it, but it's the tool that looks like a magic wand.
click on the lineart layer, where you want to color. then go to Selection>Expand Selection.
Tell me if it doesn't work, ok? ^^
Hugs!

how do you get it to show the thing where it shows the layers and you can click them?
(in the part when it says to add a white layer)
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
FastSpeedy In reply to Geezers1989 [2008-07-29 19:36:24 +0000 UTC]
as usual, the GIMP is commanded to open that window as his standard configuration. But if it didn't appear, do the following:
-In the window that says GIMP on the upper left corner, go to
FILE>DIALOGS>LAYERS
Then the window must appear. Try it and tell me if it went well.

Also... I'm working on a new one. It's like my "Coloring Tutorial on GIMP", but the version 2. Because from that day, I learned a lot of new techniques, and I want the people to know it.
And thanks, again! ^^
