I have to wonder what Ozpin did to Salem to become the woman we know now in the show who is willing to destroy all of humanity to get payback on him, had to be something pretty big when she felt "betrayed" by him to become a grimm human hybrid to destroy him.

I think we will perhaps know in either Volume 6 or a further Volume?
It must be something terrifying.

Probably, considering her expression in the clip show she was very demure and passive, hinting to a sheltered life like the story "The Girl in the Tower" mention by Pyrrha long ago, so guess episode 3 will show the consequences of Ozpin's interactions with past Salem.

I won't be surprised if there is some major disagreement between them both.
She must have powers equal or surpassing the maidens.

Probably, considering she only needs their power to obtain the relics inside each of the academies on the four continents that make up the four kingdoms in the modern timeline.

Wait...there is still one last continent we know nothing about.
The dragon-looking one.

That might be her old home, completely ravaged by some cataclysm long ago in past if you compare it's condition to the other major continents, where they all have climates and wildlife, the dragon continent is completely pitch black, meaning all life that possibly use to live there is long gone, except for her and the grimm. Which begs the question, what Ozpin do to her to change her into a complete monster against all of humanity and what he did himself to earn the ire of both brothers at once.

I'm not sure, but we have seen NOTHING of that continent yet in canon.

Seems to be the case, considering the annihilation attack the dark twin used to reset humanity back to the stone age and her home seem to take the brunt of the attack, effectively nearly render a barren wasteland until a couple thousand years had pass. Also due to the shape of the continent, that might be where the twin gods started to create the first iteration of humanity back then due to both having dragon forms to boot.

Yeah, considering both gods have dragon forms and two continents have dragon-esque designs on them, I imagine the one continent with wings is where the dark god resides and the other with the serpentine dragon is probably where the light god resides. Also, saw info for episode 4, ho boy, Qrow turned on Ozpin as well and everyone is enraged at what he's been hiding a key detail of Salem, mainly her immortality and the reason why she became Ozpin's enemy, from them so long that anyone aside from that use to be apart of his group will likely be livid with him for withholding that secret for so long. And Yang, let's hope the others, mainly Ruby and Maria, can help keep her temper in check before she does something dangerous, especially with Qrow nearby due to how his semblance works. As well, Salem is now full-on Enraged at the screw-up that Cinder did at Haven because she being petty with what Ruby did to her at the end of Volume 3.

Yeah, apologies, I tend to look around on the rwby wiki for any info to be updated constantly. Yeah, Ozpin had good reasons to keep secrets for the most part, but doesn't excuse the fact that he pretty much hasn't try to be more active and secured with his plans and open with his followers because keeping secrets for so long will eventually bite in him the rear for it; Yeah, Cinder be thankful she isn't back at Salem's castle at the moment or else she be feeling a lot of pain coming down on her head.

Yep, soon as Cinder returns to the castle, she'll likely be given a massive chew-out for her letting revenge getting the best of her and screwing up the plan back in Haven Academy.
Yeah, Ozpin really should have been careful with those he can trust proper and those trust him only at face-value like Lionheart and Raven for example, cause those two pretty much screw up everything for him, Lionheart for ratting out all able-bodied Huntsmen in Mistral and partially responsible for the fall of Beacon Academy due to letting Cinder infiltrate and ruining the Vale Festival to gain the rest of the Fall Maiden powers for Salem; Raven for taking the Spring Maiden away and eventually gaining her powers due to the maiden sadly dying under her "care". Such, Ozpin seems to have a flaw of only looking at his followers' capabilities at face-value, not the long run on how his plans will affect them overtime due to them not having the understanding of Salem he has.

Pretty much, sure he had already suffered several betrayals before the event of RWBY, he needs to be more smarter and considerate with his followers due to how Salem is able to keep him in the ropes due to her having the advantage being hidden from the rest of the world and has people that are able to follow through the plans without much trouble, until Vol 5 recently, even also has effectively eyes and ears around the world to stay updated constantly and the time patience to do her plans compared to him.

Pretty much, he's been trying to gain people that capable in most areas of education on Remnant to hopefully have followers that are able to handle most situations without him helping them. Unfortunately it seems for him and those follow him without question, Salem has deep connections the criminal underworld of Remnant and has highly capable individuals herself under her command and they usually do their jobs without much of a hitch. Also a bonus for Salem as well, she easily breaks the will of Ozpin's most capable supporters, for example, Professor Lionheart of Haven Academy without much issue and allow her False Maiden to easily enter Beacon without much trouble, taken out the majority of Mistral's huntsmen to weaken it even further to point where it could be permanently cripple from the Terrorist attack from the now violent White Fang to add even more hatred to the Faunas and cripple the kingdoms even more quickly considering it just was two years ago since the Attack on Beacon, so she knows where to hurt them and hurt them HARD with no hesitation as well.

Of course, and that makes her a terrifying enemy. Salem is definitely not to be underestimated, and her inner circle are also competent in their own right as well.

Yep, she pretty much has strong authority over her followers AND makes sure that they don't screw up her plans, such her plans are subtle but brutally effective when executed properly without any hitches, except of course with the one on Haven Academy where Cinder let her pride consume her reasoning just to get payback on Ruby.
Such, while Ozpin is trying his best to stop her, his followers are unfortunately plagued with things in their lives and doing things that don't help the situation at all, Ironwood dealing with Jacques' greed and potential inside threats in Atlas, Glynda trying to do damage control in Vale and not having much work done sadly cause of the Grimm dragon stuck on the academy. Raven who flat out refuses to anything for him and causes more harm with her tribe due to her flimsy belief of the "weak dies, the strong lives" mentality and the Spring Maiden die under her "care". Orow, suffers from depression over what with the team he was once apart of and dealing with his semblance's passive effects on others with alcoholism and now no longer trusts him due to the revelation from Jinn. Such, he is unfortunately been given bad luck on trying to do mission while Salem has been successful with majority of her plans.

Yeah, and hence she's displeased with Cinder.
Wow, that's a lot of problems...and those weaknesses could be easily exploited by Salem.

austinaltares2015 In reply to victortky [2018-12-11 06:35:02 +0000 UTC]
Sadly yes, him and his followers all have mental flaws that she can easily exploit from each of them very easily due to study them over the years from the shadows and having connections with people who can easily acquire information on his followers at anytime to break them into even more eyes and ears on Ozpin to make him even more paranoid of potential traitors in his inner circle.
For his current followers in the present day, the following flaws they have are: for Ironwood, over reliance on technology and shows of power, which was easily exploited during the Battle of Beacon in form of people feeling intimidated by fleet he brought from Atlas and his robotic army turned against him via a virus uploaded into his ship and losing more lives in the process and currently paranoid now of any potential threats entering Atlas, which Salem can easily use his paranoia against him with subtle attacks to chip away at him mentally till he breaks down from stress.
For Glynda, arguably the most capable teacher for each new generation of huntsmen that come to train at Beacon, however she is strict to the point of being harsh on students making the tiniest mistakes in her eyes and never gives them positive encouragement to improve themselves further, leading to more potential deaths from young huntsmen and make them feel inadequate to seasoned huntsmen that watch over them, possibly to the point they'll flat out quit being a huntsmen out of insecurity, which Salem can make her feel like a failure for each potential huntsmen she considered a failure for not looking at the potential they bring for the kingdoms.
For Raven, she is defiant and stubborn to those not worth her time unless it benefits the "strong" tribe she commands, who prey on isolated villages which then are vulnerable to attacks from Grimm, weakening the kingdoms even more because of this. Next is her rather defunct belief of "weak dies, the strong lives " mindset, which won't benefit anyone except herself and tribe she considers as family, even though they are in truth weaklings compare to her and yet she doesn't abandon them, possibly out of some sort of "love" to the people that raised her and Qrow when they were children. Despite all this, she afraid of Salem due to how powerful she is compare to her, even with the maiden powers she took from the Spring maiden. Such, Salem can make her feel weak by killing off the tribe she commands and make sure she is seeing her "strong" family being easily killed off in front of her eyes and tell her that belief she follows is utterly useless in world now currently.
For Qrow, despite being raised like his sister by a tribe of bandits, he chose to benefit humanity to become a better person from the past he came from. unfortunately, when his sister abandon Yang and Taiyang for the tribe and Summer dying in a mission after Ruby's birth, began to suffer from depression and eventually alcoholism to numb out the pain, also his semblance doesn't help with it either as well on how it gives bad luck to people around him. Salem can make feel worthless and useless due to his semblance and turn him into a literal hermit due to how life has been.

Mmhm, Salem easily can break them mentally and literally with the flaws and issues they have without much trouble.
Ironwood: Dependable and Well-meaning General, but stubborn and over-reliant on machinery to do work where humans can easily still do and shows off displays of Atlas' "Might" to the other kingdoms which simply instills fear and distrust from the other kingdoms.
Glynda: Capable and Highly Intelligent Teacher, but also is stubborn, stickler to rules and hard-to-reach expectations from new huntsmen, never give encouragement for others to improve, only listen to those of equal or higher authority in possibly dangerous that main occur.
Raven: Strong fighter, capable leader and "blessed" with Maiden powers, however is defiant and stubborn with others, has a outdated mindset for people around Remnant, leads a "strong" tribe to prey on "weak" isolated villages, a coward in front of those who truly have power.
Qrow: Highly devoted and Willing Follower, however is rude and blunt with people not use to him, has a semblance that affects everyone around him with bad luck, has crippling depression and tends to constantly numb it with alcohol.

Pretty much, as it seems while they know some things about her from Ozpin,, they didn't know that she effectively immune from dying from the hands of others courtesy of the Brothers' curse placed on here and due to her defiant and stubborn nature, she can't be killed, only contained or restrained at best. Also, add as well that Qrow pretty much lost all trust I him after Jinn show everyone the origins of Salem and Ozpin, so I wouldn't be surprised once the remaining followers get news of this, they'll be livid and furious with him like Qrow was due to hiding such a important secret of his former lover.
