Description
Chapter ThreeThe Black Spirit, as people named it was something that still confused Misaki and the other members of the police; it wasn't something that she was expecting to come from the city. The police force she had left didn't have anything like this, but then again, if something like this didn't happen then there was something about the Black Spirit which turned on her attention. The Black Spirit was better than the police, able to bring the people who escaped from the law to justice with the solid evidence. Through videos, CCTV photographs and any other method of catching the criminals, Misaki was impressed on how much the Black Spirit worked its way through all the defensive shields of the criminals...it felt like the Black Spirit was a criminal too. How else would it think like a criminal and where the next attack would be? Her first thought would be that the Black Spirit was actually a criminal or working in a criminal group to hunt down the others to turn them to justice, but that seemed unlikely.
"Don't you think you should be heading home?" Saito asked Misaki. She stopped working and looked up at her co-worker.
"It is getting late...isn't it?" She questioned the taller male. He smiled and nodded.
"Yes, if you don't head home soon then you'll be locked in here until tomorrow morning." Misaki looked at the computer screen.
"What do you know about the Black Spirit?"
"Nothing more than what's already written down in a log book on the activities. Why do you ask?"
"Because I want to know more about this being, it is only located in the surrounding area and only started showing up recently," Misaki sighed as she started to shut down the computer, she wasn't going to get anywhere this late at night. She had already grasped that this department was already slacking if another entity was busy finding all the information they were missing. Misaki knew what she needed to do and she was going to take charge of it tomorrow. For now, she needed to go home and get some rest like Saito had suggested.
"If you want to know more about the Black Spirit, then you'll have to wait."
"Right, let's head on out of here." Misaki switched off the screen as it went black and pushed herself away from the computer.
"You'll get use to working here, I assure you," Saito said with a casual smile on his face. The female officer nodded and smiled back.
"This'll be an interesting place to work," she told him with confidence in her voice. Of course, she Black Spirit wasn't an issue itself but more on how it got the information which the police failed to grasp. That was what was going to drive her crazy, how the being got the information. Like Saito said, she'll learn more as she works.
The Black Spirit – Chapter 3
"You know brother, you can't beat me, I'm physically stronger than you are and that isn't going to change unless you do something about it," Hei smiled down at Li. Immaturity danced in Li's eyes as he looked up at Hei. They both knew that Misaki was yet to come back to her apartment but that wasn't what was causing Li to behave like an immature child. "Did your friends give you sugar or something?"
"Nope," Li giggled before he tried to pull a serious face for Hei. It didn't last long as Li giggled once more. Hei started laughing too. "Maybe a little sugar was taken," Li soon confessed to Hei who only nodded in response. So there was sugar in Li's body which was making him energetic and adopting an impish nature. Hei knew the best place for Li to let that extra energy out from his body, the arcade. A few games of Dance Your Heart and that would sort out Li's energy levels back down.
"Why don't we go down to the arcade? I heard the Dance Your Heart got some new songs for us to learn," Hei whispered to Li, Li fell quiet to hear what Hei wanted to say. His eyes widened at the idea. Sure Dance Your Heart was normally occupied by the female audience and watched by many but it was safer to play Dance Your Heart than to go outside and play football in the night sky. Who knows what type of people live more during the night? Hei and Li could easily go clubbing too, but the whole idea of drinking alcohol was something that neither Li nor Hei enjoyed doing. Neither would drink alcohol if they had a choice, it just wasn't their idea of fun. Carmine had taken them out drinking on their eighteenth birthday and saw Carmine get drunk pretty quickly, so spent the remainder of the night watching Carmine having a blast and near enough forgetting what they were celebrating.
"It is arcade night," Li smiled up at Hei.
"Ah yes, arcade night. Another reason why you're energetic," Li nodded once more. Hei slowly got off Li, releasing him from the pin position that he had put him in. Coming home from work and then going to the arcade while Li had stayed at home after school to complete his work. It was the best way for them both to calm down from stressful work. His mind went back to the conversation he had with Carmine. "Carmine wants to come over soon, when would be the best day for you?"
"Well, the weekend is coming up, she can come on Sunday. I'm free from work then just like you are."
"I'll text her that response," Hei pulled out his phone and sent Carmine the quick text message.
"Is there anyone else free?" Li gave Hei a stern look.
"No."
"Then let's head out to the arcade."
The Black Spirit – Chapter 3
"Looks like another clear night," A gruff, male voice echoed around the nearly empty room. "Wonder what those two are doing tonight?"
"If I know the Shengshun twins, it's arcade night. They'll be heading down to the arcade now and getting ready to enjoy a good night with each other," a female voice spoke after the gruff male voice. He turned around to see Amber standing behind him. A small smile flashed on his face before a cigarette packet was removed from his pocket. "You really should head outside if you're going to smoke Huang; you know they don't like the scent of it."
"Yeah well, they aren't here at the moment. Li's got his night shift coming up at ten o'clock tonight." Huang told Amber.
"I know that, I'm just glad we can take the night off for a change." Her fingers gently rested on one of the nearby computers in the room.
The room had the constant sound of computers buzzing in the background, screens blared different programs on. Some were wired up directly to the CCTV system in the city and monitored everywhere in the city, if something was going on then the program would record it. Another computer was linked up to the criminal database, while another computer was used to create the criminal profile that the team had all come up with to help track down the potential criminal. A few computers were all linked up to the internet and the printers in the room which were solely used for collecting information on anything which caused suspicion to the team who worked in the area. One laptop was placed away from all the other computers filled with computer games, the people who worked in the office type area needed some way of relieving stress from the work given to them. In the room were three separate doors which lead to three different areas. One lead to the rest rooms which further divided into male and female, both containing showers, toilets, spare toothbrushes, toothpaste and any other needs that either male or females will need. Another room lead to the records office of all the previous criminal profiles (both caught and roaming free) which were all the originals. There wasn't any way that the police were going to have the original copies of the profiles they had come up with. The solid evidence such as knives, guns or anything else used to take a life were given to the police but photos were taken and stored in the profiles. The third door from the computer room lead to another relaxation room, brightly lit with gaming consoles, book shelves, anime, manga, drama CDs, even a fish tank was located in the room. Bean bags of various colours were lying around on the floor; in front of them were the classic Giga-drive controllers, all 4 were plugged in, colours of pink, yellow, red and blue. Tucked away in the corner of the room was a small kitchen, nothing too big like a normal house kitchen but it had everything that was needed. A cooker, cupboards, a sink, fridge, freezer, other kitchen utensils were there too. A few windows lead to the outside world but most of the building relied of a generator, locked up in the basement. The building didn't rely on the national power grid but offered electricity to the CCTV cameras in order to continue the job.
"Will you be heading home then Huang?" Amber asked him.
"Na, we both know that when Li heads off to work, then Hei will be here to make himself useful. We both know what he's like." Huang told her with a smile on his face. Huang gently shook his head, taking out his lighter he moved out the computer room and into the relaxation room. He went to leave the room and to outside the building to have his casual smoke. Like Amber had told him, Hei and Li did hate it when he smoked near them or even in the building but he could understand why they complained. They were all pretty young compared to Huang and they didn't screw up their lives than he did and they did offer him this job after the police force had chucked him out, blamed him for something that he didn't even do.
"Who actually came up with this idea?" Huang asked Amber.
"I'm not sure...I only know that from the effort that Li and Hei are putting in this, I'd hate to watch this all crumble down. Even after all the good work that we've done." Huang looked at Amber before he nodded and slowly closed the door. Huang couldn't help but smile, this job is so much better than the police job he had before. This job was a lot more satisfying.
The Black Spirit – Chapter 3
The arcade was buzzing with life, students were out having a great time and others were here for Dance Your Heart, the action shooter games and even the games relying on luck and chance. Hei and Li only needed to take one foot in there before their names were called by the owner of the arcade, a friend to the two of them and looked at as a mentor by the twins. A kind-hearted gentleman who listened to their problems when they moved here and gave them advice, he let them try out the new games that arrived in the arcade. Hei knew that Li would enjoy the arcade more than he would but it was something that the two of them could do together and that was the main thing. It wouldn't be the only time they had together but it was nice just letting go of everything and just acting like teenagers. Sure they were adults but not ever adult acted their age, no one hardly acted their age.
"Looks like Dance Your Heart is popular again tonight," Li smirked.
"Always is." Hei watched as Li made his way over to the Dance Your Heart machine and gently tapped on the should of a young female, Hei couldn't help but observe how much she wanted to go on Dance Your Heart but like most other girls, she melted under the gentle smile on Li's face. He could be the worst man to be with...if he didn't have the sweet and gentle heart that he did. With the ability to sweet talk anybody, would be Li's ability. Hei watched as Li and the girls got into a conversation, Li was slowly making his way into getting permission to go on the machine after the pair dancing together now had finished. Hei took a small look around the arcade, the claw machines were all filled with toys once more, some looked a little emptier than others but Hei was glad that it was the case; it meant that people had won the prize that they had wanted.
Walking past one of the machines, the demo mode played as carnival music played, the crane moved diagonally from the drop zone and moved down to pick up a prize, the claw didn't shut and it returned back to its original place like nothing had happened. Hei smiled when he saw a small rainbow patterned dolphin, the colours mixed together perfectly but it looked like a heavy toy, filled with plastic beans to add weight to the plush. Taking out some yen, he put it in the machine and played the claw machine, moving the claw over the plush dolphin, he pushed the button and sent the claw down into the pit of plush, the claw clamped down and it lifted out of the messy pit of toys. The dolphin was wedged in, under some plush which weren't gettable in the position they were in. Hei didn't mind too much, it wasn't like it was going to stay in Hei's possession for long anyway. He would only give it away to someone who he wanted to give it to.
"Hei, come on!" Hei heard his name called. He didn't want to disappoint Li before work. That wouldn't be fair on him.
"I'm coming!" Hei ran over to Dance Your Heart and stood onto the machine. "Pick a song and let's start." Li had paid for both of them to play for two games so that Li could pick a song and then Hei could pick the next song before they came off Dance Your Heart. Li picked the song and both Hei and he got themselves ready, they picked the hardest difficulty available and picked the song before they started playing.
The Black Spirit – Chapter 3
Misaki walked back to her apartment, the building looked all dark and empty, but in reality the residence in the apartment building were fast asleep or working at their night shifts to help pay for the rent. Misaki smiled seeing how peaceful it was and how blessed she was that she was living with them too. She walked towards the stairs and walked up them, the metal stairs gave off a CLUNK noise after each step she took. After getting up to apartment 2-0-2, she took out her apartment key and moved to unlock the door. After pushing the door open, she was greeted by the empty apartment she expected to come home to. Apartment 2-0-1 was silent, she could only guess that the Shengshun twins were out for the night or sleeping and it wasn't something she should disturb, and she wasn't sure how they would react if they were disturbed from sleep. She smiled as she thought about how they were possible sleeping at the current time.
"Today has been an interesting first day on the job."
The Black Spirit – Chapter 3
Laughter filled the air as a small group of female teenagers were walking down the street, heels were held in their hands as well as their hand bags, and the scent of alcohol lingered around the group, staining their scent with the over powering scent of alcohol. The girls all burst into laughter once more as one of the members of the group had told another joke, it probably wasn't a funny joke but the group all laughed from the joke.
The shadows shifted in a nearby alleyway as a pair of eyes watched the group of girls like a hawk, seeking the next prey. The eyes fell on the ladies group and then picked the weakest member of the group, long blond hair which passed her shoulders was the target, and the green eyed individual probably had the most alcohol in her body than the others. She was the most likely to drop behind from the other ladies and disappear off the streets. It wouldn't be hard to pluck the young lady from the hands of life and deliver her to death. A smile appeared on the face of the night hunter and the move was made.
The Black Spirit – Chapter 3
The crowd watched amazed as Li and Hei danced perfectly to the rhythm of the chosen songs on the 'intense' difficulty, just watching the directions which appeared on screen shortly followed by a 'perfect' word with sparkles jumping off, the constant sound of feet landing on the correct direction pad, neither Li nor Hei were amateurs on this game, far from it, growing up playing the game was something they did, when young, they worked together on the one side of the pad and as they grew older, they played on their own and challenged each other or played for fun like tonight.
"Want to play a couple of other games before we head off home?" Hei asked Li.
"Sure, I need to head on home and get changed into my bartending uniform before heading out," Li said as the song finished.
"Getting paid at the end of the month?"
"You bet I am. I also get to pick up the tips that the customers leave me too."
"I'll get some sleep when you head out to work." The song finished and the scores came up on the screen. Behind them, they both received a huge round of applause from the gathering crowd.
"Looks like another draw."
"That still surprises you?" Hei laughed.
"No, but we've still got a few games like mini-bowling, as well as: Spider Stomper, Whack-a-Mole, and the classic game of The House of the Dead 4*." Li smiled at Hei as he wiggled four fingers at him.
"You're still full of energy, aren't you?" He asked. He didn't get a worded answer but Li and Hei both put in the high scores into the machine and let other people play. Li dragged Hei off in a different direction, towards the mini-bowling area. This was going to be a quick arcade night if Li needed to return home before heading out to work the night shift.
