Description
Prompt: You fall asleep after an extremely long day, after awakening you go about your normal routine, you realize this isn’t your house.~
To Feel at Home
His senses slowly returned to him; he wasn’t sure how long he had been sleeping but with a cloudy mind he assumed that it had been a good few days since he was awake. Rolling over onto his back he opened his eyes and stared up at the dark coloured paint. He couldn’t sleep for much longer and he knew it, his body was waking up and wanted to get ready for the day ahead of him. The war against germs was never ending, sure there were small breaks before something else decided to try its luck…he was a soldier. A soldier born for war, to protect the fellow cells in the body or die trying. He glanced around the room and found everything was as expected…empty apart from the bed. The covers were plain and the bed was soft…his bed.
Swinging his legs around he placed his feet on the floor. Cold rushed up his body, jolting his system awake as he pushed himself off the bed and towards the nearby window. Ripping the curtains open he left and grabbed his uniform all folded neatly on the floor. The belt and blades waiting next to the pile. The uniform was exactly where he left it, stripping off his pyjamas and reaching for the clothes, he got himself dressed. The satisfying sound of a click informed him that the belt was attached and the blades rests against his upper thighs. He shook his body slightly and felt the uniform fall into a comfortable place.
Strolling into the bathroom, he grabbed the white toothbrush and grabbed some toothpaste and brushed his teeth. Healthy teeth were important, they had a day of tearing bacterium membrane and making sure it was small enough to be digested easier. Smaller chunks, less time digesting and more time patrolling the body. After brushing his teeth, he felt something wrong. His mind had started to become clearer…alarm bells starting to ring in his mind.
This isn’t home…
The thought crossed his mind. Surely this was home? Everything was where he would normally leave things. The toothbrush was the same white and the toothpaste was the same minty taste, the bed was the same…the ceiling was the same. Why was he now getting this uneasy feeling? He tried to shrug it off but the feeling only came back worse, the more he fought the more uneasy he was getting…the more his guards were raised. If this wasn’t his home…then where was he? Not even the common cells had homes identical to each other, their different personalities decorated the rooms differently.
Slowly he left the bathroom and wandered to the living room…even the interior of this home was the same as his. No, now he could feel it. This wasn’t his home. Looking outside the window he wasn’t in the lymphatic vessels, tucked away from everything. He was in one of the blood vessels. Who occupied this building? He needed to know. He continued to look out from the window while the gears in his mind whirled, trying to decipher where he currently was when a hand clamped down onto his shoulder.
“Ah, you’re finally awake…my kind-hearted killer,” a voice purred behind him. A gloved hand swiftly reached for the blade but a cancerous hand grabbed it and pulled it away. “I wouldn’t do that. Not this early in the morning.”
“Let me go.” U-1146 ordered but he didn’t dare turn around to face who held his arm, feeling the cancerous tissue starting to expand on him. He didn’t want to see the cheerful and mischievous smile on his enemy’s face, he refused to look into the venomous green eyes; the eyes that scanned him like a prize to be won at a festival. Cancer cell came closer, closing the gap between himself and the neutrophil.
“Now now, there’s no need to fight,” Cancer cell spoke softly, trying to get the neutrophil to drop his guard. Seeing his kind-hearted killer on guard like this was disheartening to say the least. He had provided the neutrophil with everything he needed to make a start of the day, replicating the neutrophil’s home as much as possible while avoiding the killer T, naive T and any other immune cell that knew him as a cancer cell. He had stolen a dendritic camera on the third travel there so he didn’t risk his life anymore, the photo was nice but it wasn’t perfect. He couldn’t recreate the atmosphere in the apartment and didn’t have enough time to fill the apartment with a lingering scent of tea. The neutrophil continued to struggle to reach for the blade, after reaching for the second blade, Cancer cell send another arm to catch that one. Cytoplasm didn’t need to be shed this early in the morning.
“How did you catch me?” U-1146 asked, ah…such a sensible question.
“You collapsed, completely exhausted after many sleepless nights. I had to fight your brothers to obviously take you but I’d say it was worth it,” Cancer cell kept up his innocent smile before he continued, “I made sure you got the sleep you needed.”
“What did you do to my brothers?!” He demanded, looking over his shoulder at Cancer cell.
“I didn’t kill them~ As tempting as it was then. They claimed you belonged to them…but you’ll always belong to me. I marked you during our second battle with that scar on your back.”
“Battle scars aren’t claim marks!”
“Oh, but mine is~ The others are simply scratches and nothing significant but the one here,” he started as he pressed his hand on U-1146’s back (U-1146 winced, still healing) before running a circle. The uniform prevented him from feeling the scar but he knew it was there…permanently, that was enough for Cancer cell. “This will never leave you, never fully heal because YOU decided to keep moving, not resting like I told you. My mark on you will always remind you how pathetic and helpless you were in that container.” He glanced around the apartment, a plan formulating in his mind. “Maybe my next container will be just like this? But instead of brick walls…they’ll be made from cancerous tissue.”
“Go to hell!” U-1146 snapped.
“And if I do, I’ll be dragging you down there too~”
