Chapter 28

November 11 reached Li a little too late. Li had already placed his hand on Amber's head and was glaring at her with daggers in his eyes. They had both pinned the blame on Amber that Li was reacting as bad as he was when it was his connection to the Meteor Shard. He wasn't even aware that the shard itself had some sort of reaction to a specific contractor power, everyone had assumed that it was just an object from the gate. November 11's eyes scanned over Amber's body before they fell onto the pouch that was resting gently by her side, inside the pouch was a small glowing light that was slowly getting brighter the longer it was close to Li. November 11 read Li's body language, he was ready to kill…he was ready to kill an 'innocent' contractor.

"Li…are you sure you want to kill her?" November 11 tried to reason with Li.

"November 11, let him do this," Amber looked at November 11 with a small sad smile on her face.

"I wanted to do this for such a long time!" Li yelled. "I can finally kill her after the hell she put me through! What else can she possible take away from me now?"

"You're letting your emotions take control over this situation, this isn't Heaven's War!"

"November 11…please…stop," Amber pleaded to November 11. "He needs this."

"He'll kill you." As soon as he spoke those words, Li activated his contractor power. Synchrotron radiation started to emit from his body but instead of a simple discharge like he would have done the whole building started to give off synchrotron radiation glow. November 11 wasn't sure what was going on, his body was giving off the glow yet his power wasn't active. He looked around to see that Dr. Schroeder's body and the cats body was going through something like what November 11 was going through. "Wha…?"

"What's to stop me from killing you?" Li growled venously at Amber but her face remained neutral. Was it possible she had seen this in the future?

Amber reached inside the pouch to where the Meteor Shard was located and smiled sadly. She held the shard out in front of Li and shook her head slightly before thrusting the shard towards Li…the glowing shard started to emit a blinding light which started expanding outwards. It wasn't long before Hei, Amber and even November 11 were enveloped in the blinding light. November 11 quickly covered his eyes as the light covered his body. By the time that the light faded, he was standing in a battle field.

Under the Mask – Chapter 28

Bodies of contractors were littering the grassy lands. Each contractor had been taken out by someone else in a brutal way possible. Burning red marks were around some of the bodies' necks and November 11 identified the weapon that killed the contractors was Li's wire. The bodies were all located by trees…they were all hung before Li released the bodies back down to the grassy field below. Questions were rising up in November 11's mind as he left the bodies and continued to walk. From the bodies alone and the shooting stars, he guessed that this was Heaven's War. Why he was here? Could he be seen? Could he touch? Those questions were running circles in his mind but he moved further into the battle ground with his hopes of reaching Li.

"Hello?!" November 11 called out to see if anyone would respond to him.

"You're not my brother…" November 11 turned around to see a young female in some black and dark blue clothing, a uniform he didn't recognise.

"You're brother?" November 11 asked confused.

"Hei, that's his name."

"The Black Reaper?"

"That's him."

"He's trying to kill Amber."

"He won't be able to."

"What…makes you say that?"

"November 11…right? Amber talks about the pair of you…"

"You…can hear what she says…?"

"Yes…While my consciousness resides in the Meteor Shard, my power resides in Hei. My original body was destroyed by Heaven's Gate when myself and Amber sealed it away. Out of reach from people and contractors."

"So…Why am I here?" November 11 asked the female in front of him.

"That wasn't my doing."

"Is...this during Heaven's War? I noticed Li's handy work here." He pointed to a nearby body.

"Yes…that's Hei's work…never did like killing…but he did it for me. To protect me."

"Protect you?"

"Yes, while he was the only human fighting in Heaven's War, he became what he didn't want to ever be…he became a killer…and a real nasty one at that. I once overheard other contractors talking about the Black Reaper being worse than any contractor that they had ever faced. I dunno if he's go the biggest kill count but you didn't want to see him in battle here if you were trying to kill me."

"He…wasn't a contractor?" He looked at the female once again with confusion on his face.

"No, but now he's a human contractor. Someone who didn't make a deal with the gate yet still has a contractor's power. You've noticed how he doesn't have a payment for his ability?"

"Yes…lucky Li…Wait a minute, body snatching contractors pay off their contract when they lose their original body. Maybe he's already paid off a contract by losing you?"

"I like that…but no, neither party made a contract with each other. I'm sure you've noticed how he doesn't act like a 'proper' contractor?"

"I've noticed that a lot. Now I know he's half-contractor half-human, his actions make a lot of sense…how he's able to act so human so easily while other contractors struggle to act like a regular human."

"You should go, my brother needs you." With that, November 11 became blinded by a bright light.

Under the Mask – Chapter 28

As soon as his vision returned, he was standing behind Li. He knew what to do though. November 11 gently placed his hand on Li's shoulder and gently pulled him around so he can face the younger contractor and wrapped his arms around Hei.

"Wha…?" Came Hei's confused voice.

"Heaven's War needs to be repeated," Amber said before she turned to leave.

"Amber!" Hei tried to break free from November 11's hug but failed in doing so. The Meteor Shard had caused him to use a lot more energy than he desired. As much as Hei hated it, November 11 scooped Hei up and went to walk away. "What are you doing?!"

"Taking you away from here before Misake shows up. We wouldn't want her discovering that her precious Li is the Black Reaper, do we?" November 11 ran his finger over the damaged mask from Wei's attacks.

"I have to k-"

"No, she's the only connection to your sister you have. If you move to kill her and somehow manage to succeed…what then? No more ties to your sister." Hei growled but he knew that November 11 was right. Amber was the only tie left to finding his sister and he did need to keep her alive.

"Where…are we going…?" Hei asked November 11.

"We're going back to my apartment."

"Can…we go to mine?" November 11 stopped and looked at Hei. "I mean…I'd feel safer in my apartment…your boss doesn't know where I live so you won't be found either. My team know where I live and I trust them."

"A chance to see where you live? I'd love that," November 11 smiled at Hei.

"Then put me down and I'll take you there." November 11 gently placed Hei down on his feet. Hei wobbled for a second before he regained his balance. "Let's go."
