His royal highness king Edward the forth of his name rules the kingdom of Luminis. A traditional man who wants his people prosper in peacetime. He converses often often with the gods and was taught facts of the world even the greatest scholars couldn't even dream of. When he was a young prince Edward made friends with an upcoming military leader called Alexander. They understood each others desire for justice, cooperation, peace, prosperity and, of course, women. One in particular to be precise. Hedwig, the daughter of a powerful lord, was desired by both men. Often they'd compete in duels and hunting in front of her. Their sometimes even escalated to out right bloody brawls.
After a year of advances from the two had the beautiful Hedwig enough. While the usual insult battle began, stood the fine lady up, went to the boys, punched Edwards guts and kicked Alexander in the balls. Then she just left. It was a humbling experience for the young men, to say the least. Alexander and Edward had to work hard in their respective fields to rebuild their reputation.
Still to the very present they remained friends. With Edward as the King and Alexander as a famous general were they able to keep Luminis safe and sound. Until the death of the gods. Panic spreads through the kingdom and it's citizen's. They all fear the demonic forces without divine protection. Which is why everyone, including many nobles with their forces, flee to the coast towns. Only his loyal friend remained by his side.
Edward knows, even though he trusts the general with his life, that humanities protector would eventually fall. So he sits on his throne in the capital city, the last line of defense before one reaches the gods temple. There he will wait for his death as the last remaining servant of the gods.
