Description
This drawing took me way too long to finish since I kept switching my focus around to other non-art projects and actually it's been a couple months now since I completed it so it feels kind of old already. This is the fourth drawing in my "Weekday Mood" series I started quite a while back to help me practice with atmosphere. Thursday always had a sort of...dusty? vibe to me for some reason. I associate Thursdays with dark blues and browns and a very studious nature, it seems like the type of day to lock yourself away in a library or office to scribble notes away for 24 hours straight. When that picture entered mind of course I had to include my oc Rolland in it.Before I got around to starting this picture however, I realized I hadn't planned for Jackson to be in any of the weekday drawings. It just completely blipped my mind despite him being one of my favorite ocs? Sorry mate. So I decided to include him in it too. Because of that it also turned into my drawing for the "Contrast" theme in (which I am so behind on but I'm gonna try my best to catch up ;v; ). These two have pretty contrasting personalites: Jackson is very laidback, loud-mouthed, and reckless while Rolland is very serious, reserved, and thinks probably too much before everything he does. Plus I was already working with a quite complimentary color scheme!
I struggled a lot with anatomy in this drawing it definitely felt like a learning curve, particularly Jackson's arms and legs (luckily friends assisted me in making it mildly less wrong). Jackson also looks waaay smaller than he actually is, even with the 4 inch height difference between him and his brother. This was also my first time seriously trying to draw these two as far as I remember so they don't look entirely accurate. Jackson certainly looks more...bishie-ish than he really is haha but I liked how I drew the face shape so I kept it. I definitely want to do some sketchpages of them and try to figure out a set design from the jumbled visions in my head.
This lack of proper design for them also made coloring them difficult. I've noticed I'm very hesitant to change character color palettes to go with a drawing, especially if it's an oc I haven't made an official reference for. But that hesitance has really changed final products from what I originally had in mind before so I want to work on being less scared by that! Overall I do like how the colors ended up though, especially after playing around with warm vs cool colors. I still need to figure out how to highlight in a way I like more, but I'll get there. The background also turned out nice which I'm glad for because it took an age and half. It does make me want to do little layouts/maps of my characters' rooms and stuff, would be a nice tool for staying consistent.
On a side note, these colors are also the same ones I associate with History. Do you guys associate any colors with school subjects? Or a certain color or mood for Thursday? I'm really curious to know!
