Description
I was asked to do this sooooo here ;o; This is more about shading because I honestly don't know how to explain how I draw anything... I just draw it. Everyone draws eyes differently anyways; I thought the little bit about how I shade would be more useful.Also a bit on glowy/reflective eyes because I've had a lot of practice with those recently! Figured out a good way to make them work.
Some other points;
2 - I usually draw really big pupils when I draw eyes, which is fine for animals, but because people have more eye white I use the inside of the big pupil as the iris. If I'm drawing slit pupils I draw those separately and colour underneath them.
3 - Use colours for shading! I shade the eyes on the same layer/s as the rest of the drawing. Colourful shading looks nicer than dull shading unless it's scenery specific (a dull grey day requires dull grey/brown/blue shading)
4 - Same thing about colour, but if you're using overlay it probably needs to be a very light variant of the colour. Screen can be darker.
5 - I only do shines like that if it's just a drawing without a background or the lighting is direct/bright. Darker lighting might not have them.
Bonus - When I do foresty lighting (I'm sure this works for all dark places) I do the basic shading first (regular lighting type shading, just from above) and then add a solid multiply layer overtop in dark blue. This makes it look dark, but not flat. I erase the glowy eyes out of this layer so they stand out. It makes a big difference to how bright they look. I leave the regular shading on them though, because that makes them look round.
I use photoshop elements 9 by the way, in case that matters to people. I think basically every program with layers has multiply and overlay though.
Sooooo yeah I have no idea how to tutorial and I hope people find this helpful in some way? I'm really bad at explaining how I draw because I just sort of do it. I've never really fought with my style because I'm too lazy |D Just let it be what it is.
