Replace "sheep" with "Cambridge Companion to Husserl" or some such painfully boring (yet inescapable) tome, and you've got a pretty good picture of my life right here.

Nope; I'm American as well. It was merely an analogy--an admittedly obscure, nerdy one. I shall describe, now, at what I am certain shall be undesired length:
1. The depicted individual is a cartoonist.
2. I am a (boring, stuffy, blue-hat-wearing) philosophy student.
3. The person in the image is attempting to sleep by counting fantastical sheep, whereupon said fantastical sheep bind and dominate the aforementioned insomniac.
4. I, too, am an insomniac. I approach a sleepless night with two weapons: Ambien (zolpidem tartrate; by perscription only, I'm afraid) and really, really boring books that aren't about anything.
5. The "Cambridge Companion to Husserl" is a really boring book par excellence.
6. Unfortunately, this and other such books become necessary to read when my thesis advisor instructs me to do so, whereupon said empty writings bind and dominate the aformentioned insomniac.

I am and certified animation graduate who only knows about philosophy to a small degree. I do have to giv emyself credit for understanding the Apollonian/ Dionysian theories and aesthetics. So i guess i know as much as that will make me seem intelligent amongst my less educated artist friends. I can tell you w whole lot about the workings of a Rennassance painting though.
