Description
A word about the Evil Eye:Very few, if any people know where it came from. Throughout the recorded history of all three Realms, there have always been whispers of a dark creature whose symbol is always an eye. With the exception of a few worshippers in the Dark Realm, it is always regarded as a creature of great evil.
It has great power, that much is obvious. Time, space, and matter mean nothing to it: it can be anywhere it wants at any time. Why, then, is the world still around? Surely such a creature of immense power and evil would wish to destroy everything?
The answer to this seemingly paradoxical riddle lies in the Eye's very evil. It is not simply destructive, rather, it seems to have a sick sense of humor in its actions. It delights in the pain of its victims, both physical and mental.
Penelope's "home" had been completely under the thumb of the Eye for many years. It caused the Smog by destroying chemical plants in the area. It also influenced the evolution of simple earthworms, twisting them into the great beasts known as the Black Worms. It played with the City, turning people against each other, making them into beasts just as savage as the massive Worms.
Unfortunately, Edaniel Materas's arrival only benefited the Eye. Although his intentions were good, none can escape the Eye's influence, especially in a world so controlled by it. And so, the world fell into further discord. Children were sent to do horrible tasks, innocent people were murdered in the name of "progress," and countless lives were destroyed by the ever-expanding Materas Laboratories.
Soon enough, Anemonae and her allies arrived in the world, and the Eye was intrigued. In fact, long ago, Anemonae had fought the Evil Eye, nearly destroying it. Indeed, she believed that she had killed it, but her "victory" was at a great cost. She had gathered a group of friends which she grew very close to in an attempt to destroy the Eye for good. None of them survived the battle, save for Anemonae herself. Their loss weighed heavily on Anemonae's shoulders, and she went into exile, living many years of her strangely immortal life alone.
The Evil Eye is a proud creature, and did not take its defeat at Anemonae's hands lightly. When, about a century later, it was summoned from whatever dark void it had been hiding in by P.ENE.LO.P.E., it noticed that Anemonae still lived. However, she managed to escape from it. It lost interest in her quickly, though: there was a flourishing city just outside the doors, a city that it could do whatever it wished with. After it had had its way with the city, Anemonae appeared once more, flung forward in time by P.ENE.LO.P.E. At that moment, it vowed to destroy she who had shamed him so long ago.
And yet, they escaped, thanks to the girl with no past. Though her intentions may not have been to leave the ruined city she called home, she facilitated their survival. Because of her, they now sleep safely, at least for the time being. With the awakening of the Evil Eye, the shadows of the past are gathering, casting a sinister light on the future. To Anemonae's comrades, it's become painfully clear what the Eye can do. Time can only tell what they might choose to do about it.
