Description
The realm of Anidell is a mystical place full of wonder and mystery. It is a land sprawling with rolling plains, blowing deserts, majestic forests, and thundering mountains. In the beauty of this great land also comes great danger and darkness, for these have become trying times and the world is holding its ground against the many trials it faces thanks to the whims of the gods. Creatures from all walks of life can be found within this land, and only the bravest and fiercest will be able to stand against such adversity and chaos...
The Ebonshore
Tucked away in the very northeastern part of Anidell lays the Ebonshore, a rocky and harsh beach with little to no respite from the terrible wind and rain. Home to copious amounts of obsidian and other various precious metals, the Ebonshore is attractive to the eye of those looking to profit off the land. However, the perilous shore isn't the only thing guarding the treasures hidden away in the rock--for something much more sinister lurks here, waiting for those foolish enough to take what isn't theirs.
Creatures Likely Found Here: Colossal, Satyrs, Wyvern, Manticore, Demon
Scorchwood
Despite the storms that constantly batter Ebonshore, an ancient forest once thrived here. That is to say, until the local Phoenix population got out of hand and destroyed the forest. Many lives were lost in the days that the forest burned, making it one of the most popular locations for paranormal activity. Ash coats the ground and chokes the air, clouding up underfoot--occasionally one may come across new trees and bushes trying to climb their way out of the desolation, but they are few and far between. It is as if life has been cursed here.
Creatures Likely Found Here: Basilisk, Harpy, Cockatrice, Phoenix, Zombie
The Grimpeaks
Bordering Scorchwood are the Grimpeaks, the tallest and longest mountain range in Anidell, stretching far into the north. Snow covers these ancient mountains almost year-round, and glacial ice covers the very tops of the mountains all the way down to the crooked lowlands, where their melt-flow feeds the Manapools. These mountains are storm-ridden, though one is never sure if the sounds of thunder and lightning are elemental giants at war or actual weather. There are very few paths through these mountains, some leading into treacherous caverns that often have no way out. Watch your step here, in this land, for your next may be right off the edge of a cliff hidden in fog.
Creatures Likely Found Here: Ogre, Gryphon, Thunderbird, Elemental, Banshee
The Manapools
Immediately upon setting foot near the Manapools, you can get a sense of radiating power. These pools, often shifting in an array of color much like the northern lights, are glacier-fed, and some say that the mountains above them are rooted deeply in old magic. Touching these pools can cast a wide range of temporary spells upon you, from causing you to forget why you were there to turning you into a frog! Still, unlike the lands further north, there is a sense of peace here--as if the magic simply wants a good laugh at your expense.
Creatures Likely Found Here: Orc, Unicorn, Thunderbird, Fae, Apparition
Badlands
The searing heat of this deserted land makes this location one of the most desolate and forsaken regions in the land. Few creatures are able to survive here, as the burning temperatures and shifting sand dunes consume the area. The heat in this regions rivals that of the volcanic ash lands far to the south, making traveling in this region extremely difficult. That being said, temperatures plummet at night, allowing most creatures to roam--night time is an especially dangerous time, so travelers must always be on their toes!
Creatures Likely Found Here: Colossal, Cockatrice, Thunderbird, Elemental, Phoenix
The Deadhills
These hills are one of the darkest regions in Anidell, home to death and misery. No living creatures will be found here, for only the damned reside in these lands. A very mysterious area that will test the mettle of anything that wanders into it, often to the result of disappearing without a trace. If you tread these lands, be prepared for the unknown and the comforting grip of death.
Creatures Likely Found Here: Zombie, Banshee, Demon, Apparition, Basilisk
Highlands
Majestic hills with rocky crests cover this land, creating ravines and occasionally difficult slopes. The weather here is quite mild, as the super-heated winds from the Badlands filter through and make it exceptionally warm. Close to the border of the Manapools and the Grimpeaks is a lake that is crystal clear, also fed from the glaciers atop the mountains. However, this water lacks the magical properties of the Manapools, instead offering a place for a warm and weary traveler to catch a cold drink and maybe some fish.
Creatures Likely Found Here: Ogre, Orc, Gryphon, Wyvern, Elemental
Shivershriek Ridge
One of the last settlements before the wilds of the Frozen Wastes and its bordering mountains, Shivershriek Ridge is a quaint little town nestled in a deep canyon, surrounded on all sides by mineral-rich hills. Or, at least, it is by day--at night, the town becomes eerily silent, even the most subtle of noise echoing off the rock walls. Some nights, especially in the winter seasons, however, screams resound across the village, their source unknown. Most of the villagers are used to it, by now, but newcomers and travelers will spend many a sleepless night here.
Creatures Likely Found Here: Banshee, Demon, Harpy, Manticore
The Frozen Wastes
Frozen does not even begin to describe the cold here in the north-easternmost part of Anidell. Ice coats the ground year-round, a terrible wind howls across the plains, and it is almost always snowing or sleeting. However, the cold is not the only danger here: monsters lurk in the storms, starving and frigid. This is no-man's land, but for those brave enough to venture into the frigid pass, the rewards may be great.
Creatures Likely Found Here: Colossal, Dragon, Thunderbird, Elemental, Zombie
Lowlands
Cut by various winding and twisting rivers, the Lowlands are perhaps one of the most peaceful and easy locations to reside in. Rich in nutrients and sheltered from storms by the northern mountains, the Lowlands could almost be compared to a cradle of life. The rivers here do have the ability to flood in particularly wet springs, but the damage is manageable and rarely do the floodwaters linger.
Creatures Likely Found Here: Orc, Fae, Phoenix, Apparition
Merriwood
Folklore states that Merriwood is where all good energy in Anidell stems from, despite the fact that it is leagues away from the magic of the Manapools. As such, the people and creatures that inhabit this ancient forest are generally a well-meaning, innocent sort, save for a few outliers toward the south. These woods rarely see a terrible winter, and summer rains are always warm and perfect for dancing in.
Creatures Likely Found Here: Unicorn, Ogre, Wyvern, Manticore, Fae
The Shadowglen
Deep within Merriwood lays the oldest forest within Anidell. It hold the most mystery and lore within the land, and is a place of great tranquility. The trees here are the tallest and greatest trees in the realm and are home to a wide range of creatures. However beautiful this region is, it will often test you, leading many people who venture here never to return. This section of the forest is alive, and demands respect if you are to survive.
Creatures Likely Found Here: Elemental, Harpy, Demon, Basilisk, Cockatrice
Silvershard
These mines offer an easier route than the Ebonshore for treasure hunters. The silver mined from here is often the highest quality found in the land, and gemstones litter the rocks surrounding the area. But with the promise of riches come greedy individuals: people who would be more than willing to kill than to bargain. It's suggested you come here as a group, for honor does not exist among thieves under Silver fever.
Creatures Likely Found Here: Dragon, Colossal, Satyr, Phoenix, Zombie
The Bloodwood
Not much is known about why or how the Bloodwood came about, only that the lake that this treacherous forest surrounds is red as spilled blood and acidic enough to the point that no one dare swim in it for very long. In fact, the area around the lake is so devoid of life that one wonders how a forest sprang up at all--but all the trees have a red-tinged hue to their leaves and it is nearly impossible to tell what time of day it is once you venture too far into the forest.
Creatures Likely Found Here: Orc, Gryphon, Thunderbird, Manticore, Apparition
Stranglemarsh
These lands of Anidell are hazardous and usually avoided by most, purely for the difficulty of traveling through them. Stranglemarsh is where the Lowland rivers flood into a murky swamp; it is a foggy region full of river systems, lakes and marshes. This area is rich in flora and vicious creatures. Having a very humid and warm climate, Stranglemarsh is a place for very few people, as the risks it poses are often too great.
Creatures Likely Found Here: Ogre, Basilisk, Demon, Colossal, Elemental
The Bazaar
Perhaps the central hub for all of Anidell, the Bazaar is nestled in between the Bloodwood and the Highlands. It is a large city, home to many types of people and creatures. Different cultures await you at every turn, and despite all their differences everyone is able to live together in harmony.
Creatures Likely Found Here: All!
The Dead Sea
Save for a few ports scattered here and there (the biggest one being the one closest to the Bazaar) the Dead Sea is all but vacant of anything notable. Salty enough so that salt forms on the shoreline, the Dead Sea is dense enough to cause a horse to float, occasionally even allowing them to walk on water. Despite its rather harsh water, fish can be found here, swimming in rainbow shoals that flicker off the sunlight.
