Description

Maurine Lake felt so sure of what she was doing, but the whole sequence of events that led to her filling out a form that said she was now indefinitely in the custody of a supervillain still looked a bit strange.

She was in a mental wellness program for women going through thinks like divorce, the loss of a loved one, and things like that. One evening, while at home, she got a call from an unknown number. The person on the other line asked if he was speaking to Maurine, and upon getting a 'yes' in response, told her something very curious.

"You are unwell."

Those three words seemed to cast some sort of spell over her. It was a bit of a surprise but it sounded so true.

"I am...unwell."

"Your mind is troubled. You need to be in the care of a doctor."

"My mind is troubled," she said. "I need to be in the care of a doctor."

"Come to the following address and a doctor will help you."

"Okay."

Maurine hung up after being told what would come next.

That's where things started to get blurry. She got a ride in a car with a woman whose face she couldn't see and was brought to an enormous mansion. Roaming the halls were girls wearing straight-jackets carrying out various tasks. Maurine was then introduced to a short man calling himself 'Doctor Psycho.'

Maurine knew of him and knew he was a supervillain, but something kept her from running away or trying to get help. In fact, she was happy to meet him. He told her that she was suffering from a lack of purpose in life, and that he was going to help her find her true potential.

He told her he was starting her on a program of 'obedience therapy', effective immediately and in perpetuity. All that was needed was for her to sign some forms. She read them over, and the legalese made it seem as though she was joining a gym or buying a home.

In fact, she was signing away her autonomy. By signing the documents, she was to forfeit all control over her thoughts, emotions, and desires. She was to become one of his henchwomen, his 'Psychotics.'

Maurine was fine with this, and happily signed. After she did so, she was sent home to await further instructions. Indoctrination materials would be sent to her soon as well.

She was going to love every bit of this 'obedience therapy.' She knew it.
