**NOTE: I've abandoned using DeviantART because it's been lost to AI generated images. I won't be returning, but I recognize many people link to this influence map template, so in order to keep legacy links intact, I'm leaving this, and the original V1 template up. Hell, you might even discover some things about yourself doing this!
The grid can ultimately be filled out however you want it to be. The recommended sizes of the images are shown below the grid -- make your biggest influence take up 3x3 squares! Lesser ones to follow.
Also, editing the file, changing colors, sizes, fonts, whatever, have at it! Make it yours!

I would love to do this, since I have A LOT of things that influence me and I try to draw influence from as many things as I can, but I'm having a hard time thinking about how exactly to do it, like how to format the map and the best ways to put the images I selected on there, and even how to transform the images in Photoshop later without getting those pixel effects on the image. Any suggestions?

I see your little note saying it's not theft for those who put images on it or whatever. However, even if you don't claim it as your own, crediting doesn't count either plus you have to have proof of written permission to use something that isn't yours in order to upload it here on DA. If you don't believe me, feel free to look back on all its rules.

Yes, I'm aware of all that, and I'm sure the DA admins were as well when they decided to award this a Daily Deviation instead of taking it down for rules/copyright violations upon receiving all those DD suggests. I maintain my position that this meme is used as a means of discussion and not a claim of ownership of the work. (What artist wouldn't love to see themselves listed as an influence to another? I'd personally be honored to see my work show up on someone's map!)
I wanted to encourage people to think critically, talk about what inspires them, (a vital tool to get out of a rut,) and to do so within the simple parameters of this worksheet. The design of this worksheet was considered, by making it rather unmistakable in thumbnail form, so when someone submits their map, it is immediately identifiable as a part of this conversation. As literally thousands of artists around the world, from professionals and amateurs, have done a map by now, it really is an ongoing discussion among us, and nothing else. I'm glad I could spark that little bit of insight.

There's no guarantee they would know of it. Plus, this wasn't hand picked by the admins personally. But I'm sure if it was brought to their attention, something would likely be done about it. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your idea in doing this. However, on the flip side of the coin, I can easily see it going wrong and how people could easily take a single picture, upload it and claim it as "inspiration." Therefore, I feel the thing as a whole simply treads on the rules and probably should not be here.

(Well, it was on the front page for a whole 24 hours, hahah -- many of the DA higher-ups undoubtedly saw it that day while at the office. Unless they all collectively ignore the DD's when they arrive in the morning.)
Hahah but anyway -- if a person submits a single image (as-is, outside of the design parameters of this meme,) under the claim of "inspiration," I don't really think it's the fault of the meme that the person had done so. They were just acting on their own accord. -- And I agree, submitting a single image like that IS against the rules since it's using DeviantART as more of an image host, and viewers would easily mistake the "inspiration" as being created by the submitter. (I can't tell you how many times I mistake a colorist for having drawn the line art on collaborated images.) This meme intended to avoid those mistakes by utilizing small, square cropped tiles instead of single, whole full-size images. Anyone who isn't following those guidelines (submitting single images for example) is just asking to get their ass beat, and just plain not participating in the meme hahah.
(In hindsight though, with my little rant at the end of the description, I sure hope someone wouldn't mistake what I wrote TO justify doing that. I should probably rewrite it a little more clearly just in case.)

There's only a handful of DA staff and they have to manage probably.. millions of people on this site between reports, news, etc. So it wouldn't be surprising in the least if this was missed. I mean.. you can justify this meme all you want but bottom line is, if you use images that don't belong to you without written permission, it is in violation of the policy. Doesn't matter if it's a cute meme like this, a collage, poster with text slapped on it, image is big or small etc. Hence, if anyone does this, it should be put on other places other then here. I've seen them get taken down if caught and reported in. It's only a matter of time. Again, I know you mean well but reality is, people using this meme with copyrighted pics doesn't belong here.

Very well, hahah. I don't mean offense by saying this, but I suppose many of us don't quite follow some of the policies as cut and dry, black and white as you do. A lot of us would probably argue that it does belong here because it's an aspect of being an artist many overlook. By saying that, I'm not implying that this is above those policies, that it breaks no rules. But I think there are ALWAYS gray areas to policies that people can say "well that's not so bad, in fact isn't it good?"
It could be a matter of time for something like this 'till its removed for violation. But seeing as how it's so popular on DA, and very easy to locate with countless strings, you'd figure that time would've come long ago.

I'm sure it'll come in due time. It could be a second from now or as long as several months on it if getting reported in. But again, if it is, it'd be those using this with copyrighted stuff on it. So it wouldn't be against you directly.
