Description

I had the idea to include a cyborg subculture in my webcomic, basing it primarily off of the gradual consumerization and particularization of the Goth subculture over the past 40 years.

    1: Old School Borgs:

Since the first human habitation of the Stars was completely dominated by machines, except for a few humans, and the occasional domestic animal like a dog or a mouse, the young people from that period (now middle-aged) began to integrate themselves into the world of machines and computers at the level of their own bodies, hence all of the cybernetics. The figure on the left is modeled off of my first impression of Bauhaus vocalist Peter Murphy, and the figure on the right is likewise w/ Siouxie Sioux.
2: Oblong Boys (as is the pejorative from the older borgs):
Fast forward 20 years, and licensed cybernetics shops are a normal site anywhere in Terran space. A small part of the next generation's young people flock to them like seagulls, and can constantly be seen in the vicinity, discussing the latest cybernetic novelties, flipping through fashion magazines from Gregorian 1780-2000, and generally feeling like dejected human waste, if in a collective way that makes it bearable and kind of fun.

The male oblong boy for this segment is referenced from an image showcasing EGA (Elegant Gothic Aristocrat) street fashion on Wikimedia Commons; he became something of a self-portrait, though the blue pattern-camouflage frock coat is far too flashy for me to wear. As for the female subject for this part, she's mainly referenced from the lead woman of Eisinfunk, though the mask is a protogen head and the dress is based off of a recent Moi meme-Moitie design.

    3: Borg Socials:

As young people do, this generation don't imitate their fathers or mothers, but rather their bisexual aunts and uncles who get hammered drunk on box wine and gripe about whichever latest stupidly wealthy demagogue. They do receive cybernetics, and the like, though there are so few Borg Socials that most have not seen eachother once, except on their various socials, hence the name.

Notable with their developments is that, where the male Borg silhouette has grown more and more subdued with the passing decades, the female Borg has become progressively more divorced from what the Human Body used to be. The female Borg social I drew for this one was modeled vaguely off of the flag of the Isle of Man.
