Funny thing is that in the Gen IV games (particularly in D/P and Platinum) you can light up the WHOLE cave whereas in the Gen III and Gen V games you only light up a slight portion of it. Β
I'm not sure how flash is done in Gen VI, though.... Β

In Gen VI there's no real need to use Flash. Β There are dark caves, but it's not black, just dark. Β You can see as long as your 3DS isn't on the lowest setting.
If you DO use Flash, however, it permanently lights up the whole area until you leave.
