GabrielleBrickey In reply to craziigiirl [2011-03-14 03:59:43 +0000 UTC]
same general way, just sometimes I will start with different parts of the eye. Like I will draw the pupil before I draw around the eye

Oh. and if you draw an entire face?
do You always draw a base layer first, and you start to add shadows and stuff like that??
Well, I'm asking you this cuz I think your technique is awesome ^^'

GabrielleBrickey In reply to craziigiirl [2011-03-14 05:16:36 +0000 UTC]
yes I add a base layer then go in and add shadows and I build up in layers as they get darker

Ohh, that's amazing!!!
and, you might find this very anoying, but the base layer is on everything or should I leave blank spaces for the highlights??
I know I'm causing you a headache, but I really want to improve my skills and I am afraid to make drawings like yours

GabrielleBrickey In reply to craziigiirl [2011-03-14 20:54:06 +0000 UTC]
Well I have at least 1 base layer on everything, yes. Then if I need to make something lighter for a highlighter area, I will use a kneaded eraser. Just try out different ways of working and you will find a way that works best for you

That's the best Eye Drawing Tutorial on dA! Thanks a lot, it's really awsome!
I looks really cool and your explanations are simple and perfect.
I used it for that picture [link] and it really looks great.
It's not as good as your eyes because i don't have your skill, but for a beginner like me and the second trying, i think it's not bad.
The only big problem is, to draw these very dark lines, i don't know if i use the wrong pencil or the wrong paper or something else. It all just looks grey.
Oh, and i got one simple question, do you always use a photo reference?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
GabrielleBrickey In reply to Reiji-Minato [2011-01-09 06:41:49 +0000 UTC]
wow, thanks!
I guess press really hard to try to make it as dark as possible. If that doesn't work I would recommend trying as many different papers and pencils that you can. Here are some I use that I personally like- [link]
And I don't always use a reference. I often like to draw eyes from my imagination, but drawing from a ref. can help you get more details.

Reiji-Minato In reply to GabrielleBrickey [2011-01-09 16:51:52 +0000 UTC]
Thanks a lot for the useful tips and the tutorial.
Next time I try pressing harder!
Wow, that tutorial is cool.
I think my pencils are ok, but I don't have things like stumps or an penicil eraser. I hope I'll get them somewhere!
Oh, and I used q-tips, they are really great!
My sort of toilet-paper dosen't work, so I used tissues and they are ok. But I really wanna have some kind of jumbo q-tip, for elephants or something like that!
So for the first time I will use a reference to learn where to place the details.
