Description
All I could feel was a terrifying numbness in my body. I squirmed frantically, trying to break free of my steel shackles. I couldn’t see, which only freaked me out more.Once Vlad stumbled upon me and Alex in the x-ray room, the men had stunned us and pinned us to the ground. Hoods were put over our heads and we were tasered constantly once we were bound. I had a thick leather strap pinning my wings to my back, and we were dragged somewhere.
All I knew now was I was restrained to a metal surface in a silent room. It was horrifying.
“Alex?”
My voice reverberated off the walls eerily. I shivered, trying to peer through the thick black fabric of the hood. Of course, I couldn’t see through it. Figures.
I stiffened at the sound of a steel-against-concrete rasp, sending chills up my spine. Something groaned, then the sound of a pained yelp rang out.
“Alex?” I asked fearfully, scared that if he answered me, something bad would happen.
“No. Alex isn’t here to talk to you right now. But I am.”
The voice was smooth, cold and somehow, terrifying. I put a brave voice on, doing a surprisingly good job.
“Who are you? Where’s Alex?”
“Firstly, I want to ask you something. How are you, Danny?”
My breath froze in my throat as a gentle hand was placed on my chest, another running something cold down the back of my suit, sending more chills down my spine at the steel. I gulped. The whoever-it-was chuckling slightly.
“Scared?”
“N-no.”
“Hmm. Maybe this will change your mind.”
All of a sudden, an electric shock arched though my spine, coming form the metal rod thing they put down on my back. I screamed, nerves on fire as I pulled against the restraints and not moving an inch. Then it stopped, making me pant and shiver from the pain and shock.
The person laughed lightly.
“Wow, he is right. This IS fun.”
I cringed at the person’s touch, but luckily, they pulled the rod from my spine. I really wished they would pull off the hood. I wanted a face to this enemy. I wanted to know if it was a boy or a girl, man or woman. It was a kid, I could tell from how the fingers felt, but I had a suspicion it was a girl.
“Who are you?”
“You still didn’t answer my question.”
The person (a girl?) jabbed the rod into my ribs, shocking me again until my back arched up on the table so much it was a wonder that it wasn’t broken in half yet. Once the volts stopped, I flopped back down on the semi-cold steel, half-muted whimpers escaping my throat.
“Well, bird boy?”
“Please!” I quickly answered, not wanting another date with pain. I’ve faced neglect and abuse and plenty of pain, but this was terrible.
“Please what?”
“Please…no more…”
I hoped he/she would stop, and thankfully, I heard the rod being put down.
“So, how are you today?”
I gulped, not knowing what to say. Great? Especially that you’ve just shocked me enough to make my brain go fuzzy? No.
“Um…can you…take the hood off? Please?”
I hated sounding so pathetic, but I wanted to see where I was, figure out an escape plan, and if Alex set me up, to beat him senseless. You know, I should just beat him senseless anyway. Payback, you know?
“If you answer my questions, then yes.”
I nodded, swallowing a bit. Nervous? Me? Nah!
The hood was pulled off and I nearly was blinded for a second. I blinked rapidly, trying to adjust my eyes to the light when the door swung open, banging loud enough to make my eardrums rupture.
“Hey! Hood stays ON!”
I squinted to see a pair of green eyes before the hood was pulled back on. I hissed as the person pressed on my stomach. Whoever this person was, they paused, pressure letting off a bit.
“What’s with you?”
“Don’t…touch…” I managed through gritted teeth. The pain only made rage ignite inside my gut, making me want to ram my fist into Alex’s stomach, kick him in the side of the head, anything.
“Wow…”
I could feel my suit being adjusted for whoever-it-was to see my bloody bandages.
I just wanted them to stop.
“Easy!”
They had pressed on my stomach wound, making something start to ooze fresh blood. I growled.
“Hey, if you’re just gonna leave me in the dark and hurt me, than you can leave! If I’m right, I’m probably going to be killed anyway, so quit wasting my time!”
I yelped as the person whacked me upside the head, making my cheek bleed again. I could feel the rod digging into my ribs again, this time so much it hurt just to breath with it there.
“I’d watch you step, bird boy. You’ll regret it later on.”
Then the rod was removed, the door opened, and it was slammed shut. I breathed a sigh of relief.
Ahh, sweet silence. Even if I still couldn’t see. Which brings me back to my fist two questions with the mystery person.
Who was that?
Where was Alex?
And a third question.
Where is Alex so I can totally kick his butt for setting me up?
Really, I just wanted question three answered.
“Still, he’s a lying jerk, so either way, he still deserves it.”
I sighed, wriggling my wings a bit only to bite back a few curses as I felt a few feathers being pulled out from bruised skin. I pulled uselessly at the shackles, wishing at least the hood was off. Then I could aim kick and punches at the first person I saw. Including Alex.
I jumped at the sound of the door opening, near-silent footsteps coming in. I tensed, ready to burst free and give them hell. I was expecting a blow, needles, a curse, anything.
What I didn’t expect was a soft hand, kind of like before, but more of a motherly touch than just mere coldness I felt from the other person. Their hand was warm, inviting almost, but I kept my guard up. Then, all of a sudden, they were gone.
I sat still in pure shock. What the h was going on?
The door opened again, all-too-familiar footsteps echoing off the walls.
“Vlad.” I snarled.
“Now, now, Daniel. Be nice.”
“To you? Hah! I’d rather eat a rabid squirrel. A live, rabid squirrel.”
Vlad pulled off my hood, making me face another encounter of blinding light. White rooms suck. Once I stopped seeing spots of light in my vision, I glared at Vlad.
“So…what? You gonna stick me in that chamber again, mess up my body even more than you have?”
Vlad folded his arms behind his back, closing his eyes calmly.
“No. I just want you to know I’m very disappointed in your behavior towards Alex. You really injured him, Daniel.”
I snorted.
Hah, that’s rich, seeing how he shocked me with that stupid collar every time he got the chance.”
Vlad sighed.
“That is one of your more useless qualities, Daniel. Sarcasm and being a smart-aleck doesn’t help you in the least in the real world.”
“But it’s something I do to further piss you off.”
Vlad flushed, signaling that I had got under his skin. I loved ticking him off when he was like this. It’s fun. Believe me, you would want to try it. But don’t try it with your parents.
Vlad sighed again.
“Oh, dear. Mannford?”
A blondish-red haired man strode in, big Coke bottle glasses perched on his large nose.
“Yes, Mr. Masters?”
“Put him under. It’s time.”
“Yessir.”
Mannford-or-whatever came by me, wielding a needle. He backed away, alarmed when I snarled viciously at him. Vlad motioned him to go on.
“He’s restrained, he can’t do anything.”
Hah, that’s what HE thought.
Mannford came closer, aiming for my neck, when…
“AHH!”
Mannford reeled back, clutching a bleeding hand as the needle fell to the floor.
“HE BIT ME!”
I snickered as Vlad looked at the bite, then to the blood dripping off my canines. I probably looked like an amateur vampire. Think of me as Danny the avian/human vampire. Now for Vlad to find a wooden stake…
Mannford was whimpering, clutching his bleeding hand as Vlad picked up the needle and injected me himself. I just missed his hand as he jabbed it in my pulse. I felt my mind shut down, my vision groggy as I felt a warm darkness surround me.
