Description Losts

"Okay, I just want to say it in front of everyone: I am against the island-plan." "Francis, shut up, it's set. An island is defensible and as far as we know, zombies can't swim" said Bill. "They're not the only one" growled Francis. That made me listen up. "Don't tell me, you can't swim, Francis. Man, and I thought I am the only one in the group." "You can't swim, Daniel?" asked Louis. "Nope, ever learned, never needed, never wanted. Doesn't mean I won't step onto a boat." After I swapped my M14 for a M16, Zoey opened the door. "Let us search a boat and hide like cowards." "Zoey, stop. Enough" I said. She stuck out her tongue at me.
After we walked through a store outside and down the street, we really found some boats. Louis and Bill went ahead to check them out. After I reloaded my weapon – it wasn't empty here – Francis and me talked with Zoey. "Did you see Bill that happy once?" he asked. I nodded. "Guess, he was that happy last time, when we thought we lost Zoey." "Right and I am still thankful that you didn't want to leave me." I smiled at her and kept asked. "And you, Zoey? Still.. you know..." "Furious at Bill? In some way. I mean, he just wants to do good, still... I don't know. I see you guys almost as my family and I love Bill – but I don't know if I know Bill." "I know, what you mean... one week ago, I would have thought, at a situation like in Millhaven, he would simply mow down everything, but today..." "Hey, look what I found!" suddenly yelled Louis and we ran to him. "Our boat." Zoey was the first time really happy about that island-thing. "A yacht? Awesome!" "Louis, I thought we said we're looking for a sailboat" I said with my arms crossed. Francis was annoyed. "Stop that sail-shit, it's a boat. It floats, dammit. And when I have to get the gas every time on my own." Sighting from Bill. "This thing is a... WHOARGH! SHIT! SHIT! DAMMIT! Something is pulling me down!" screamed Louis suddenly. Bill and Francis dropped their weapons and pulled him out. "What was that? A Witch? Sounded like a Witch attacking, at least" Francis wanted to know and Louis didn't answer for a brief moment: "Well... something like that." I knew what was inside there. Zoey was a bit further and pointed at a boat. "Well, it floats and got a sail. I think, that's it." Bill looked around and found under the deck something. "Okay, we take this boat – no doubts." When I came in, my jaw dropped down. "Cool. If we don't steal this nutshell, we're idiots." It was filled with supplies, medkits, weapons and ammunition, but also a corpse. Outside, Zoey was waiting and I pointed at the bridge. "On second thought... can this boat fly? Else we need to rise that bridge and something like that never happens quietly." "Right. Louis, you stay here, with your leg I don't want to risk something." Louis patched up his leg and looked up. "Please? You're kidding? Look at that guy, he stayed with the boat."
We went to the bridge, shot down a few zombies and Francis climbed up. "Let's rise this baby... what the...? Guys, nothing is happening!" Frustrated I dropped my weapon. "Typical. Okay, I guess I saw a few generators around here. Turn on these things. Francis, Louis, you stay here and hold that bridge. Zoey, daniel, we three split up and find those generators." Zoey took position at the first one right at the bridge, Bill ran down a street, were also one was waiting. Mine was inside a warehouse. "Ready?" I yelled as loud as I could. "Ready!" came from Zoey, Bill was out of reach but not his generator. He turned on his and I followed shortly after. Just Zoeys was not cooperative. "Come on, you generator-fag. Go... oh dammit. TANKS! TANKS!" Panicky she ran to the bridge and I saw two Tanks coming to us. Inside a bar right next to the bridge I saw a molotov, so I ran inside and grabbed it. "It's getting hot!" The molotov set both Tanks on fire and both were hunting me. One punched me and I flew up-side-down onto the bridge. "Ouch... my head..." A Horde came due the generator-noise. "Hurry up, ladies. I don't want to waste my last ammo to cover your asses!" said Francis from the bridge. "If you don't like it, come down!" yelled Zoey. After both Tanks burned out, Zoey tried it again with the generator. "I hate these things. Come on, you piece of shit." It did it – and instantly attracted yet another Tank. This one was kinda easy to take out. "Okay, that's it – I'm dry. Out of ammo" said Francis and went to the switch. "Can't be true – it says 'please wait'..." We were back on the bridge and I looked behind us: Another Horde. "It's getting boring. Say, why we just wait for a few days on this bridge until Louis' leg is healed again? Would make more sense than to risk it with a wounded one. Also, the zombies should go away until then." Bill nodded. "Sounds good to me. But first we take out those guys." I nodded and told him to go left at the fence while I went at the right and we fired across. "Don't forget, I don't have any ammo anymore!" yelled Francis to us. "Then use your shotgun as a club" suggested Louis, who still could provide cover with Zoey.
Suddenly, we heard a constant, quiet buzzing. "Seems the bridge is ready, Francis. Get that thing up, we're coming." Together with Bill, we ran back onto the bridge and Francis lifted it. "Finally, we made it." Zoey put down her M14. "Jesus, I know it's going to be loud, but that loud? Dear god!" Louis was optimistic as always. "If the bridge is up, it should be quiet again. That's no..." The bridge stopped. "What's going on?" asked Francis. "The generator right there went of again. Shit. Okay, someone has to... oh god..." I gasped. FOUR Tanks came to us, together with a Horde. In desperation, I dropped myself on the ground. "Damn. If we don't restart that generator, it's over for us. But whoever goes down there, will not come back." We looked at each other. I risen my hand as a warning. "Zoey, forget that right now. Rather I go." "But I..." "I go." That was Louis. Francis put himself behind a heavy machine gun, 50 cal, here on the bridge: "No problem with that." "No, Louis. With your leg... you won't come far. Zoey... I..." "No. Please, Daniel. Don't... BILL!" Bill suddenly jumped down and ran to the generator. I was surprised. "This old bastard. COVER HIM!" We shot with everything we got and could kill one Tank.  The Horde was distracted by a pipe-bomb, but when Bill restarted the generator, one of the Tanks reached him and punched him inside a room. Another one threw a car into our direction, but it felt into the water – the bridge was up. Zoey was up by now and looked down from the handrail. "Bill... oh Bill..." I saw the three Tanks running inside to Bill and decided to do something. "Cover me!" Before they could stop me I was already ran over the stairs down onto the balcony next to the bridge and started to shoot the Tanks. They were on fire. That was not a good sign. "Hold on, Bill." The three Tanks really ran back outside again and one of them felt over already. After a few seconds the other two were dead as well and I was down from the balcony and ran to Bill into the generator-room. "Bill? Bill!" When I was able to look inside the generator-room, I slowed down. "Oh Bill..." "Daniel, what are you doing? Get out." "No, not without you." Bill coughed once. "You get outta here now, before of those fuckers come." "But..." He aimed his M16 at me. "GO!" "Never. You don't stay here and die." The M16 got lowered again and Bill threw his cigarette away. "I won't make it, Daniel. I am not able to get moved." "...I... at least I want to tell you something. Zoey already knows about it for a while by now." A tear rolled down my cheek and Bill grinned. "Don't tell me, she's pregnant? You animal." "No... I... I lied to you from the beginning." I told Bill the truth. When I was done, he didn't say anything for a moment. "Well, that changes a few things. Still, you should go now." I stood up and left. "Daniel? One last favor: Take care of them. I know you can do it." Smiling I nodded and Bill gave me a thump up. His arm went down slowly... and then he left us. I looked at the balcony. All three of them were standing there, full of hope. When I said nothing, Zoey ran inside crying. Francis helped me up and Louis was still on the bridge. "Don't take it too hard, Daniel" said Louis. "He might be dead, but we're still alive. Without him..." "...without him we wouldn't be here, all together, I know. And... as long as we keep him in our memories, at least a part of him will stay alive. But still..." I set down in a corner and asked them to leave me alone for a while, both seemed to handle it better than me. Or better than Zoey.
Oh Zoey...
Pain went through my head. "Why?" Zoey stand in front of me with red eyes, her hands were fists. "Why? Why didn't you ass tried to prevent it?" she screamed at me. "You knew, that Bill was going to die. Why didn't you do something?" Slowly her breath died and she felt on her knees. "Why? Why? Why?" Now she was only whispering and cried at my shoulder. I didn't say something, just pet her head.
After a few minutes, she was calm. "I am so sorry, Zoey. I couldn't do anything..." She sniffed one and looked at me. "Why Bill? Why anyone?" She stood up again. "Was..." She washed away the snot from her nose. "What did he told you at the end?" "I should take care of you, I had to promise it. Also..." "Hmm?" She sniffed again. "Also I told him the truth. He said himself, that I couldn't do anything. He didn't want it different, anyway." "But why?" "I... have no idea." She looked down and again to me. "Do you stay with me for a bit longer?" Nodding we went inside and I gave her some comfort.
A few hours later, we were all a bit more calm. Even everyone was still kinda upset, but it was alright. One decided, due the fact we had to hold out for a few days, we should make a bridge between the bar and the machine gun. "We're on a way to a deserted island. Ten movies about that" said Louis, who was sitting on the stairs. Zoey reached Francis another board and smiled slightly. "A month ago, I would have said ten zombie-movies. Now? Ten documentaries about how to build shelter, fishing and making toilet-paper." I swung the hammer a bit harder. "Robinson Kruso. Day of the Dead. That movie with the volleyball called Wilson... er.... okay, that's all I got." Zoey looked to me. "Please don't joke around, I currently don't feel to make fun." "Sorry... but I was serious." After a few hours we paused and I laid down to sleep. In my dreams, I saw the scene again:
Bill jumped down. The Tanks ran to him. He restarted the generator. And died. I wanted to do something, but whenever I tried, I felt that I am so incredible slow. Again and again and again. I tried everything, once I jumped down with him, once I ran into the Tanks, once I tried to kill them but no matter what I did, it always ended the same.
Sometimes, there were other dreams. In those, it wasn't Bill, who jumped down but Francis or Louis, sometimes myself. In case of Francis and Louis, it was the same, they got killed by a Tank. In my case, it was a bit different, I didn't get killed by the Tanks, I could came back to the bridge, but not back up. Instead, a Tank threw me over the rails into the water and I drowned agonizing.
But when it was about to be Zoey, I screamed in panic she wasn't allowed to do that. "No, Zoey! No!" I woke up. To see her dying I couldn't even accept in a dream. With both hands I went over my face and stood up. Below us was a Horde for a while now didn't noticed us. Probably the noise of the bridge attracted them. I decided to get my Katana into the boat and threw it down. We didn't need it anymore, so keeping it was pointless. Also I wanted to drop my pistol but then decided it would be better to keep it and to shoot some zombies. Francis joined me after a while. "You're alright?" "No, not really. I miss Bill, as much as I don't want to say it. We didn't came along great, but... I hate it." I put away my pistol. "Would you have to preferred it that you jump yourself? Or me? Or even Zoey?" "You? Or Zoey? No. I for myself don't feel to die, either but who knows, maybe I would have survived." "No, Francis. Nobody would have survived that. Three Tanks, not even you can handle that." We went down to the half-done bridge. "I dreamed about that, how it would have ended if you, Louis or me jumped down instead... you two would have died just like Bill, I made it but got thrown into the water and drowned." "That's bad" meant Francis and took the tools. "Come, we should get this bridge down. As faster, as better."
