Description
Passing the torchWe were finally done with barricading the doors of the balcony of the bar and with constructing the small bridge. Even we were unable to get into the bar, but the only room up here was also filled kinda good and even had a second jukebox. Personally, I got a small amnesia from the last Tank I fought and was missing a few of my memories about my own reality and probably also things going to happen.
I went down the stairs, into the bar and turned on the Jukebox. We already figured it doesn't attracts a Horde, usually. Any random song was playing, "Safe me some sugar" by the Midnight Riders. A fitting song for my current feeling. Behind the counter I was searching for something to drink and even found something. Just alcoholic stuff, but I gave a fuck – I just felt like I needed it even I was never drunk yet. With a drink and a bottle in my hands I went on the balcony. Louis limped down the stairs. "Everything fine? How do you feel?" "Bill is dead, the Military betrayed us, you're hurt as well and we probably will stay the rest of our life on that fucking bridge... how do you think I feel currently?" was the answer from me and I drank the rest before filled the third glass. "Want one?" Suddenly you could hear steps and Francis almost felt down the stairs."Woah... Calm down, Francis or you gonna be the next with a broken leg." Francis cough a bit. "Other side of river... car... there are survivors..." Now all my worries disappeared. Survivors! Unbelievable, there were people. "Zoey... talks..." I stopped him. "Breath normal, big buddy. I'll go over there and take a look." Louis nodded, he couldn't come with me anyway.
On the other side, you could already hear them. "Listen, cupcake, can we talk to a man for once?" I saw how Zoey showed the guy the finger. "Fuck you, Colonel Sanders. We..." "Zoey? Can I try it?" She wheezed once and I started to talk with the small group down there. "Well, I guess, we got a bad start. So, what's up?" The guy in the suit didn't seemed to be entertained. "Another child, oh great... Listen, kid. We..." "...stay in front of a risin bridge and won't be lowered. I know." While talking, I went from the left to the right. Zoey kept waiting left. "What do you mean, 'won't get lowered'?" asked the woman of the group. "Long story short, the generator's empty – and we can't refill it. We got a wounded... and lost a man..." answered Zoey with a slight sadness, she didn't want to think at Bill. "If you can fill up that generator, we can cover you. Best offer I can make" Zoey continued with a sigh. "Daniel might guide you, he's decent rifleman and maybe can help you out – three to prepare should be enough." I climbed down and jumped on the street. Francis came from the backside and threw down a few medkits. "Here, you might need these." "Thanks, brother!"
We quickly told each other, who's who. Ellis was looking up dreaming and received a slap from Coach. "Wake up, kid, we need to go to the other side of the river." I put on my Kaputze, because the weather became worse. Over a hedge we almost jumped into a group of zombies. Weapons were something we didn't had that much, but at least I could say I own a katana. "Get that zombie, it got something!" yelled Rochelle suddenly. And out of nowhere, a zombie with a hat and a medkits rushed past me. And even we had such a long break, my reflexes were still quiet good and the zombie got decapitated fast. Not just a medkit, but that guy also had a pipe-bomb and a bottle of pills. "Poor guy... assumable used to be another survivor but wasn't immune. Become infected is probably worse than dying I guess..." "Now don't start to cry me a river, kiddy" said Nick to me. "I can also go back, if you want to."
We followed the promenade to a parking lot and from there into a store. Weapons here, how useful."
All of us took one, Rochelle, Nick and me grabbed an Uzi, Ellis and Coach decided to use shotguns. Through a door behind we could go up a staircase into a small floor. Right-handed were two rooms with office-furniture. In one was also a box. Nick checked it out and opened it. "Woah, nice. Seems someone collected a lot of pipe-bombs." He took a hand full and tossed each of use one, who could still carry one. At the end of the floor was a small restaurant. The two zombies got their heads removed by Ellis golf-club. Suddenly, a Spitter came through the exit. "What the...?"
The entire ground was now covered with that green, acidic soup and we climbed over benches and tables to move forward. Luckily that goo vanished quickly and we could go back on the ground. In a small chamber half-way to the exit we found another zombie but nothing else. Outside, the weather was still depressing and bad and we went to the right behind the building. "Oh man, that's a total maze here..." said Ellis and Coach looked up. "There we need to go, I think." We followed the alley to the end and could reach the next stage from there. "Be careful with that car, it still got an alarm" I warned the rest when we passed it. It seemed Ellis didn't hear it because he went backwards straight into the car. Instantly, he got yelled at by Rochelle. "ELLIS! WATCH IT, MY GOD!" The horde cam from the upside and it was kinda hard to kill the zombies due they almost jumped on someone. From behind I heard a grunt and suddenly a big something rushed past me, carring Nick. Suddenly, it stopped and began to ram Nick into the ground. "Shoot the Charger! That thing is crushing me!" To get some air around me, I shoved in a half-circle and threw the pipe-bomb I had. Coach was already firing and after short time the Charger felt over. I ran to Nick. "Are you still alive?" He moaned once and I grabbed at my belt and handed it over to Nick. "Here, take these." The bottle was swallowed by him at once. "Thanks, kid. You're not that bad after all... aw, tits. A storm!" Thinking wasn't required, we just ran into the next building. "Check the rooms" suggested Rochelle, but we were not find anything worth of use. Up the stairs however I found weapons. "Nice... folks, big guns, right here!" It were just SCARs, but I didn't care. An assault rifle was an assault rifle, no matter what. Through the door we could see that the storm became normal again and we were even there where we wanted to go to.
On the other side was a park. Ellis shrug his shoulders. "Then we go through the park I guess." One followed without any complains. About in the middle of the park was a surprise for us: an infected marriage with a Witch in a brides groom. "There should be a wedding-cake around somewhere..." mend Coach. "Do you need to think about eating now?" hissed Nick. Carefully we got closer to the witch... one by one we sneaked past her. "Good Misses Witch... just keep sitting..." I whispered, probably that quiet that just me could hear it. Two of us were past – Ellis and me – and Rochelle was about to get past when a Hunter came towards her. "Ah, get it off me!" What made the Situation just worse was the fact that the Witch spotted her and got up quickly. Biting my lower lip I was thinking fast about a way to help her. But except one thing I could think of anything. "Time for some hero-bullshit. Ellis, help me." He seemed to be a bit confused and when I shot the Witch, at first he didn't react. "Shoot her!" Running a marathon backwards I tried to turn the Witch into swiss cheese but something slowed me down without a warning and the Witch catch up. Just when I incapacitated, the Witch felt on my. The break was a horde assumable, probably attracted by the Witch. And all were dressed nicely, what was logic after all.
After a short time, everything was fine again. I almost died, but it was okay. Rochelle helped me up and aided me. "Weird thing you just did." "Somehow I had to rescue from that Witch and it was the only thing I could do, Ro."
Ellis checked the Witch once again. "Man, I just remember – I should marry Zoey." Wait, what? Nick shook his head. "No, you shouldn't." That I totally suggested Ellis: Zoey was my love and I would even murder for her. What I was doing for about a week, theoretically.
Inside the tents was a single pack of incendiary ammo, but also SPAS-12 and M16. I can't say why, but having a M16 in my hands again just felt great. A bit further was a saferoom and we went inside. One patched each other up, if required, refilled the ammo – the short way here wasn't empty after all – and we talked about. Ellis seemed to be nervous. "What would you think, Rochelle? Do I have a chance with Zoey?" Rochelle smiled and shook her head. "No, not even the idea of a chance." "What? But why?" Without a comment she pointed behind Ellis, who turned around and looked right into my pistol. "Whoa, dude. What...?" "I really like you, Ellis – but when someone wants to take my girlfriend becomes instantly my enemy." "Oh, so she's...? And I thought..." Nick and Coach probably got entertained by that scene and we went outside. "Let's go, I miss my car." Outside were some zombies, which I slaughtered quickly. One of them dropped something. Coach crouched down to check it. "Another poor soul, who tried to survive." Meanwhile, Nick was shooting upstairs. Upside we were in a kind of shopping-lane or something with a lot of smaller shops and more zombies. "Hey, check this out!" yelled Ellis to us and threw a pipe-bomb. Within seconds the street was empty again and we went forward again – until something came onto my from above and dragged me away. "God, help! Do something!" Someone ran towards me and started to beat me up. "Die, you shitty jockey." It was Nick, who quickly terminated my passenger. I was about to thank him, there was Nick already gone. A Smoker pulled him behind the heck next to me. "Smoker got Nick!" I informed the others – until I saw that they were currently busy with a Hunter and a Boomer. So I jumped through the heck and cut open one of my cheeks at an arm. Nick I could see, who hang in front a window the Smoker was standing in. A short burst and the Smoker was history. "Quick, the others got problems as well." Problem was underestimated, that was a small war. Ellis was on the ground, Rochelle snuggled with a Hunter against her will and Coach was surrounded by a horde. Nick supported Coach while Rochelle got help from me. "Hey, can someone help me, too?" screamed Ellis meanwhile. But by that moment I was too busy with the Horde around us. After a short time everything was normal again and I gave Ellis my hand. "And, everything still together?" "Guess so. God..." "Wait, let's take care of that." I took my first-aid-kit from my back and healed Ellis. Then I looked around to figure out where we went in to patch us up: A tattoo-store. "Hey, Daniel. Shall I make you a tattoo with the name of your girl? Right above the ass, she'll like that." "Fuck you, Nick" I moaned at him. He rise his hand and looked innocent. We kept moving and had to go into a pool-hall. Here were a few zombies standing around, but nothing big. Behind in a corner was a locker full of molotovs. Rochelle looked inside and commentend it with "Hot. Literally." On the tables were weapons, but those were just SMGs and therefore nothing we could use. In one corner was a jukebox standing around. I went there and shortly before the window I looked outside. "Holy... that's all flooded. Did they want to dig to the ground-water in that construction side or – oh dear." "What's wrong, kid?" asked Coach. "I see an arm of a Tank over there. On second thought... we got a lot of mollies, so why not throw at him?" Coach took one and aimed. The molotov flew, hit the Tank and then dropped on the ground, why the Tank ran straight towards us. I watched everything and and sprinted into safety. "Watch out, here comes the Tank!" But first came a rock from the Tank, which hit exactly the jukebox. It was a real miracle that the jukebox not only didn't break, it also started to play music.
The Tank climbed through a window into the inside and just stopped – we were waiting for him with five molotovs ready. It was the first time a Tank showed something like intelligence, even just for seconds. Then next he started to run again and all five mollies flew and half of the hall was on fire. The tank survived not long was grilled very quick. To get sure he was dead, I stepped to the body and kicked it once. "Smells like grilled chicken... hmmmm... I could eat one or two of them right now." "Coach, less eating, more dead zombies. Okay?" requested Rochelle. Past the flooded construction side we entered the next building, which used to be a cheap hotel. In the cellars back was another pool-table with an shot of adrenaline. Around was a lot of graffiti. Those made me curious. "Man, that's like the meeting of zombie-movies and -games!" Rochelle didn't understand. "Meaning?" "Look here, for example this one: 'Otis, ran out of film, blabla. Frank West'. Frank West was the main character of the game 'Dead Rising'. Or here: 'Roger, went to the Mall – Francine'. Romero's Dawn of the Dead." Ellis also found one he knew. "And that one? 'When you need a M60, come to my store – Crazy Dave'. Isn't that... Plants Versus Zombies?" Laughing I nodded.
Nick wasn't really entertained. "That people in such a situation can still make such kind of jokes – or even such kind of jokes in the first place..." and went towards the stairs. Also the toilets on the other side was full of graffiti and there was even a bile-bomb inside, I took with me.
