Description
Happy Pride Month everyone! I've been waiting to share this for a while because it gave me the chance to share how I had figured myself out and how I came to accept myself!I have a friend who really enjoys playing video games, even if they're obscure or bad, so it wasn't suprising to me when he mentioned a game he'd recently played called "Cry of Fear". Normally, I wouldn't be very interested in the games he recommended to me, but after he told me the plot, I was completely hooked and immediately wanted to play when I got home that day. During this time, I was seriously questioning my sexuality. At the time, I had believed I was bisexual with a preference for men. But, I never felt attracted to women, so that's where the confusion came in. I never told anyone about this until after I had come out.
I had a really slow computer at the time, so it took a while for the game to install and launch, but I think the wait was worth it. Hearing Simon's voice for the first time is something I wish I could experience again, because I was feeling things I hadn't felt before.
Yes, a video game character made me realize I was gay. I didn't tell anyone this at first, but now I do, and it gets a LOT of laughs out of people! (I did tell my gamer friend though, and he thought it was pretty funny that I figured out my sexuality though a video game character). I wasn't in denial or anything, I already knew there was something different about me, but for me to figure that out through Cry of Fear is what makes my "coming out" story so interesting and why I enjoy the game so much. It was my parents that were in denial, and it took them a while to accept their son was gay. Now their favorite question is "when will you get a boyfriend?" and I don't know how to tell them my boyfriend is someone who doesn't exist!
There wasn't really anything bad that happened to me after I came out, minus the bullying I got from a couple of classmates who somehow were told about it and my parents having a hard time accepting me for a few months.
I was around 16 at time, and I'm turning 19 in a couple of months from now
I hope everyone has an amazing Pride Month!
