I think that if you're intending to make a total conversion mod it might be a better idea to design wholly new weapons rather than trying to appropriate things designed for human hands. Just imagine a pony bending its leg straight forward to try and aim at something.
Bows and arrows; it'd be simpler to say that unicorn ponies could shoot magic bolts from their horns. I guess there'd be lots of overlap with magic classes.
Swords; how about a helmet that has a sharp blade sticking out of the top where a horn would be? Imagine a bull goring something.

EP, I know this conversation is a BIT old. But the thought in my mind as far as weapons for ponies, at least as far as swords goes. Is something along the lines of what you see in Assassins Creed.
A blade hidden beneath a plate of armor on either right or left foreleg. Opened with the flick of a hoof. Given what I've seen from the show when it comes to the ponies range of motion with they're forelegs, they could easily use the blade as an extension of they're hoof for defense and attack. But that's just my take on things.

That's an interesting idea, I will have to give that a read. I've been working on and off on my own fic and idea's. That's where my idea for the blade hidden in foreleg armor came from...if I could draw it out I would, however I fail at drawing...utterly fail.
I've done a lot with leather armor as well for the Pegasi, it would be lighter and more comfortable and still provide a decent amount of protection in combat. But those are just my silly ideas haha

The Royal Guard wear the helms of a legatus, and it's befitting I suppose generals would too. I can't help but wonder what the more common soldiery might wear.
... Or are all Equestrian soldiers in the Guard? If that's the case then clearly helmets don't distinguish rank at all. Regardless, awesome piece. Never pictured Derpy in much of a badass role!
