Description
His heart was pounding faster than his quickened footsteps as he hurried down the hospital corridor, a worried frown on his thin pressed lips. The last thing the doctor wanted to hear when he came to work was that there were three uniformed men waiting for him in his office. He tightened his grip on the papers his was holding and moved a bit faster.Half of him wanted to get there and get whatever they wanted from him out of the way quickly, the other half was scared and just wanted to vanish, some part of his mind was scared for his life right now. He served his time in the army for the World War, he already said he wasn't going to serve again, the hospital was already short doctors, he couldn't leave.
He stops outside his office door, hesitant now. He rolls his shoulders back, setting a hand on the doorknob, pushing forward and quickly entering.
His heart dropped. Two armed guard and an officer in full uniform were there, waiting for him. The officer was idly inspecting an anatomical skeleton shoved in the corner of the sparsely furnished, neat office. He looked over at the doctor, a chilling smile on his lips, “Ah, Doctor Morgenstern, good to see you arrive..... Please, do come in.”
The doctor sighs and steps into the office, closing the door and striding over to his desk, going about and starting to file the documents in his hands, giving him something to do. He know he shouldn't do the secretaries job, but he needed something to do to stop his hands from shaking in fear. He speaks, “What brings you to my humble office, sir?” He glances up, the officer moving towards him, resting his gloved hands on the desk, leaning forward. The officer grins, then simply reaches into his trench-coat, pulling out an envelope. He sets it on the desk, sliding it towards the doctor, murmuring, “To be delivered to Claus Morgenstern...”
Claus frowns and sets the files down, moving to pick up the envelope, sliding it open, “You really are a bunch of mysterious men...”
The officer laughs at that, stepping back, “Let me know what you think, doctor...”
Claus frowns and starts to read the letter he was given, his heart felt like it stopped. It was a warrant for his arrest. His lover had outed him to save his own skin. A surge of anger coursed over him, his hand starting to tremble in fear, “I-...” Is all he manages to get out.
The officer seems to enjoy watching Claus' discomfort, “Now.... We have two options... I can take you in and lock you up in the camps, all neat, tidy and done. Or...” He pauses, grinning widely.
Claus sets the letter down, clasping his trembling hands behind him, “Or what? What is the other option?”
The officer seems amused, “I find it curious you do not deny these charges laid against you... Though, doctor, the other option is that you join with us, and your charges will be forgotten. You have a brilliant mind and it will be most useful to us. We need a doctor to conduct medical experiments.”
Claus winces slightly, “Would... it not make me more guilty if I instantly pleaded I was innocent?” he pauses, considering his options, “I... I will work with you, fine...”
The officer grins and snatches the letter off the desk, ripping it in half, “Good man... You are still coming with us though...” The two armed guards advanced quickly on Claus, grabbing him roughly by the arms.
Claus gave a startled cry, “W-What are you doing?!”
The officer strode forward, pulling out an armband with a crude pink triangle sewn onto it, forcing it onto the doctor's arm, laughing softly, “It's just for show, don't worry...”
Claus tries to struggle free, yelping in pain as his arms are wrenched painfully behind him, one of the guards hissing, “Do not struggle.” He grunts and ceases his struggling.
The officer nods in satisfaction and turns, striding quickly out of the office, calling back, “Bring him along, boys...” The guards drag Claus out along after him.
Claus groans softly and hangs his head in shame, feeling the judgmental eyes and hushed whispers as the other doctors and nurses stand in the doorways, watching Claus be mercilessly dragged out as their prisoner.
