From the thumbnail I was wondering how the fuck you photographed it, now having read the Artist's Comments I'm wondering how the fuck you modelled it! Madness.

That's wonderful. I thought it was a photograph.. then I really noticed what the liquid was doing... so i figured it was a manip! But nooo Great piece my friend. The red is awesome and the glasses look great. Nice Lighting.

Very nicely done. Very realistic at a glance, but now I can see how it's rendered. But that doesn't make it anyless of a good picture / render. Good luck with future renders.

Yep, I too was about to ask you how on earth you managed such a 'photo' until I realized it was a render (by looking closer). Great work there, the physics and refractions and rendering all are awesome.

blaspheme8 [2005-02-07 16:39:00 +0000 UTC]

The glass looks a bit thick to be a traditional, delicate class, but the reflections and the liquid are so amazing!

wow I so loathe you. I am so untalented in that way, and here you are and you just made that look so great.....*huggles* i love it so much! *viva la france! i love wine!*

have you ever tried rendering it without Realflow? I think that would be a really interesting thing to try.

btw, i am gonna try and sketch this pic (just to see if I can get the affect of the moving liquid!) beware!

i might just be being too picky here, but the base of the glass looks too small.
nice render however congrats on dd

burnphile [2005-02-07 16:02:21 +0000 UTC]

Great work man, I'm about to give you the best compliment a cgi artist can get:

When first seeing in the DD i was about to send you a comment asking you how you managed to get the shutter speed fast enough so you could capture the liquids shifting like that, and still have enough light in your scene, Then i loaded the deviation and saw that it was rendered. Thats amazing man, great work and definetly worthy of the DD

I DO have a question now that I know its a render too... how did you get the liquids to be so correct in terms of physics. I could see if you modeled it you might be able to pull it off, but it seems too perfect for that. I assume you used some sort of dynamic render scene and then animated the glasses? I would love to learn how to pull of some of that stuff. Unfortunately I switched to maya a while back, so I dont know how well i'd be able to keep up if you were to explain it in 3dsm terms.

Great work man.

GX10 In reply to burnphile [2005-02-07 16:09:09 +0000 UTC]

First off All, Thank YOU !!!

Second: It's Done with Realflow, a stand-alone liquid simulation tool. It is particle based and can export to all major 3d apps, like maya.

It took me around 10 hours of simultions with RealFlow to achieve this kind of realism

nice lights and model. what'd you use with the liquid? realflow?
though i do think that it deserves a better rendering engine to make to look just that bit better
something that can properly deal with physical and caustic phenomena.
great pic.

First I saw this, I thought, "How the hell is that possible??? There's no way that's a photo..." Well congrats with coming up with something so life-like. From the color, to the flow of the lines, up to the way glass looks like when light hits it.
