Description I walk around
Only half seeing anything,
Only half knowing anything.
The day is lovely,
Warmer than any day this year.
And I know that people line the grass
Like sun starved North Westerners
Who have lived in the gloom too long.
But I still walk around in a fog.
I know my destination
But I do not remember the journey there.
Was it important?
Or was it not and that's why I don't remember?
I think my mind is stuck in a real moment
That happened hours ago
In a very different place.
I can still feel the press of a body against me in the dark,
And the comfort it gave my soul
To feel arms around my shoulders,
Holding me as tightly as I held her.
Something in me still feels the calm
Of resting next to her
As she ran her fingers through my hair
Like it was something she did all the time.
Then I look around and find myself surrounded by books
And the part of my life that is now.
I wish for the distraction back as I pick up my work again.
