Description int. torchwood front office

Alarms are blaring. Evie is frantically typing on the hopscotch. Nobs is running around witha  fire extinguisher trying to put out small flames around the perimeter of the building. C.A.T.I. is running around spewing coffee everywhere. The Professor runs in and grabs a wrench from a desk, then runs back out. Sounds of bombing are perilously close, causing the room to shake. Stephan rushes in, wet to the bone. He takes in the chaos in a second, shedding his coat, and rushes over to Evie.

STEPHAN

(shouting)

What's going on?

EVIE

(shouting)

We don't know. The hopscotch started working on its own, then the bombs started to fall. Professors working on intercepting War Office communications. We're trying to figure out if its the bombs fault or not.

STEPHAN

Where did the fire come from?

NOBS

Electrical. We had a power surge that's fried virtually every outlet.

STEPHAN

What works?

NOBS

Everything in the Professors office, underground and the communications lab, which was shut down. Anything that was turned on is toast.

STEPHAN

And C.A.T.I.?

EVIE

Probably needs a reboot.

STEPHAN

Okay.

Stephan goes over to C.A.T.I. and grabs her to keep her from moving. He kicks her in the side, which inexplicably powers her down. He kicks again and she reboots.

EVIE

What the hell did you do that for?

STEPHAN

Reboot, get it?

Evie sighs disapprovingly. He shakes his head at her lack of humor. C.A.T.I. chirps a thanks at him. He ignores her and passes into the communications lab. C.A.T.I. chirps sadly at Evie.

EVIE

Don't worry. He's like that with everyone.

int. communications lab

Stephan enters and sees the Professor just standing up. A bomb explodes, shaking the room.

STEPHAN

I need a report, Prof.

PROFESSOR

Communications up. Intercepting radio broadcast now.

The Professor turns a few dials and the radio comes in.

radio

(static)

Bombs dropping in southwest quadrant. All units deployed to combat. Fires being doused, thirty buildings hit and total rising.

STEPHAN

Southwest quadrant. That's Brixton, Clapham, almost as far as Wimbledon.

PROFESSOR

That's where the bombs are, according to this.

STEPHAN

This is Highbury. I just came from Shoreditch. There shouldn't be any bombs here.

PROFESSOR

So what's bombing us?

INT. TORCHWOOD FRONT OFFICE

Stephan and the Professor rush in.

STEPHAN

Evie, what's going on the Hopscotch?

EVIE

Uh, its a steady pattern. Red, blue, green, green, red, white.

STEPHAN

Red, blue, green, green, red, white. Interplanet communication, what the devil is red?

EVIE

Red is danger.

STEPHAN

Only on earth. Got it! Red is dancing. What the devil do they want us to dance for?

PROFESSOR

Unless its not a message from another planet.

STEPHAN

This is from earth. Someone else is sending this to us.

Another bomb hits, very close to them. Everyone is thrown to the ground. Stephan is the first to jump up.

STEPHAN

How do we send a reply?

EVIE

Hold the lever and press the colored buttons. What are you going to do?

STEPHAN

Nobs, is there a way to trace where this goes?

NOBS

Through the network. The transmission will go through all the towers we have until it stops somewhere. We get an automatic telegraph communication from the station.

STEPHAN

Watch for that. Okay, please work.

Nobs runs out to the communications lab. Stephan holds the lever and presses the buttons. Red, green, orange, orange, yellow, white.

STEPHAN

(yelling to Nobs)

Anything?

NOBS

It's from our farthest terminal.

STEPHAN

Where?

EVIE

The crash site. It still has the main receiver. We couldn't pull it out.

STEPHAN

(grabbing his coat)

Evie, you stay here and wait for us to contact you. Nobs, weapons. Professor, you're coming with us, too. We need a jeep, now.

NOBS

(rushing past him)

On it.

EVIE

Are you mad? There are bombs out there!

STEPHAN

(putting on his coat)

Bombs that aren't supposed to be there.

EVIE

This is suicide!

STEPHAN

I've already been told that once today, I don't need to hear it again. Just stay here.
