Description
int. different levelEvie walks between two rows of shelves, all with boxes. She stops in front of one marked Hopscotch Crash, 1939. She pulls out the box and pulls out a book wrapped in cellophane. She pushes the box back in and takes the book upstairs with her.
INT. TORCHWOOD FRONT OFFICE
Evie sits down at her desk, setting the cellophane wrapped book in front of her. She tears it open and flips through it. Its in a different language and script, far different from anything on earth. Finally she hits on a page with a color key. She finds red first. She takes a note. Then she finds mauve and takes another note. It doesn't make any sense, but she realizes that she hit on something big. She looks very excited.
The rest of the team busts in through the door. Nobs holds the door open, Stephan and the Professor carry in Peter.
Nobs
Evie, can you get the surgery ready.
EVIE
Who's hurt?
NOBS
None of us. But hurry up.
Evie rushes out, followed by Stephan and the Professor carrying Peter.
int. surgery
They come into the surgery. Evie is already setting up bandages and tape from a standard kit. Stephan and the Professor lay Peter down on the operating table.
PETER
Thanks, lads.
STEPHAN
(to Nobs)
Patch him up quickly. I want to question him within the hour.
PETER
Question me? I haven't done anything. I'm the one who called you.
STEPHAN
Yes, and we're gonna find out why. Just fix him.
PETER
Look, there's no reason for this. It won't matter anyway. Just let me talk to you for a second. Hey!
Stephan leaves without acknowledging him. Peter sighs angrily.
EVIE
Don't worry. He's like that with everyone.
PETER
Yeah, well he didn't used to be.
int. office
Stephan comes into a deserted office. All it has is a desk and a chair, but its private. He stands around a moment, thinking to himself. He paces for awhile. It doesn't help his mood at all.
int. surgery
Evie is holding onto Peter as Nobs prepares to operate. The Professor stands off to one side.
EVIE
What do you mean, he didn't used to be?
PETER
I mean, he wasn't always rude like that. He was a great friend, a good captain. We loved him.
EVIE
You mean, in the war?
PETER
Yeah. He was my commanding officer. And my best friend. We went through basic together. He was always a little odd, always very positive about the future and all. But he took care of us. He kept us going.
NOBS
(confused)
Can you feel that?
PETER
Feel what?
Nobs tugs on a piece of loose flesh.
NOBS
That.
PETER
No.
Nobs pokes him with a scalpel.
NOBS
What about that?
PETER
I can't feel anything.
Nobs stands straight, pulling off his gloves.
NOBS
(to Evie)
Stay with him. I'll be back.
Evie nods and Nobs goes out. The Professor stands quietly, observing things from his spot on the wall.
PETER
(to Evie)
How long have you known the Captain?
EVIE
Only a couple days. He started working here yesterday.
PETER
Yesterday? And he's already got you buffaloed. Poor guy. He must be real on edge.
EVIE
I thought he was pretty unflappable, actually.
PETER
You mean he's been like this since he got here?
EVIE
Well, yeah.
PETER
Wow. Poor sod. I tell you what, I'll have a talk with him and maybe he'll lighten up, eh?
EVIE
That would be great.
PETER
Anything for you, love.
Evie and Peter look at each other for a second. Evie blushes and lowers her gaze. Peter smiles.
