To everything going on
In your life, in mine
In general
We're treated how we expect
Expect more
We're as happy as we make ourselves
Try harder
And all the while
I sit in bed
Wondering how nice life could be
If all were not so blind.

You have to be bright
To be noticed
You have to be colorful
Like some feathered bird
So we change, we appear
You wear colors of changing hues
Wear black
The music is loud and controversial
Be silent
It's in doing what others are not
That you can truly find peace
So I try to live my life that way.

I have ignored
The misery that my life is
In favor of an optimism
That is blind to all my pain
If things are getting better
Then they can't be so bad today
Yet others in hopeless situations
Separated from truest love forever
Are happier in their loneliness
Than I am in talking to you.
What am I missing?
Where is the mystery?
Why am I so blind?
