Description Research for the Steampunk story.
Steam powered planes are very impractical. That being said, any civilization capable of it is going to find a way to bomb their enemies. I figure airships are too slow to be practical for a lot of things, and it would be advantageous to have a small, light craft to dart around and drop little explosive presents behind enemy lines. One of these, admitidly, would be more of an annoyance than anything else. But a whole fleet? Yeiks.

Of course they are only gliders, and would need a proper airship to pick them up before they run out of altitude and end up surrounded by the enemy. Nonetheless, I like the idea.

And also... Cap just wanted to go fast.

I looked around for a few, but most modern ones seem to be based off of regular planes, which would just be silly in a world where they never existed. Also they're ugly. There. I said it. So I ended up going with designs based off of Da Vinci's flying machine (pictured at the bottom). Don't remember what all these are from, but I did end up favoring the designs of a man called Otto Lilienthal.

Goodwin used to fly one of these when he was still on the Force, and quite well too. He says it was the best thing ever.
"No really. Best thing. E V E R"
Kind of like Harry Potter and broomsticks I guess, but with cigarettes and cursing rather than magic and angst.
