Description Okay, so this one's a bit long and drawn-out, but it's been weighing on me for a while to mention this kind of thing.

I've seen a lot of signatures here on DeviantArt that state something to the effect of "I believe in Jesus Christ. If you do, too, and you're not afraid to admit it, then paste this into your signature." Anybody noticed this? Unfortunately, some of the people who have that in their signature often seem to say the most hateful, un-Christlike things to anyone who disagrees with them.

I, too, believe in Jesus as my Savior, and I have no fear or shame of proclaiming that to anyone. But I will never put that tagline in my signature. That doesn't make me any less Christian, nor does it make me "afraid" of my faith in any way.

I've got news for you, folks. A few words in your signature do not make you a Christian. Fred Phelps uses words on pretty signs to convey messages of his un-Christian God of hate. Nor does wearing a cross pendant. Some of the most un-Christian rap songs are sung by people wearing huge cross pendants. Nor does having a WWJD bracelet if you don't actually apply the meaning of it to your life. Going to church doesn't do it, either. Some of the most evil people on earth go to church. Knowledge of scripture doesn't do it, either. The pharisees of Jesus's day had a knowledge of scripture that was second-to-none, yet they were the ones who were always in conflict with him. It takes more, even, than mere belief in God and Jesus. Guess what - satan believes in them! That certainly doesn't make him a Christian.

John 13:35 says, "By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples," not if you follow the fads, know scripture, can tell people of every sin they've committed, but... "that ye have love to one another."

That means a kind, unconditional, Christlike love for atheists, abortionists, gays/lesbians, Muslims, Goths, and any other group you can think of. Because Jesus didn't look at what clique people belonged to. He didn't look at race, religion, or nationality. He loved everyone. He never beat people over the head with their sin, either.

Christianity is not a social statement or fad. It is a lifestyle defined by love. You claim that God's love has transformed you. Prove it.

Okay, sorry for the sermon. Also, sorry if this is a bit too fast to read, but it's long enough as it is. Thank you, $zilla774 for the template.

If you don't want me to say thank you, then don't fave it. If you accuse me of not looking at your profile, I will point right to this section of the artist comments.

You say that the idolization of script makes us guilty of idolatry... even though we are supposed to study our Bible constantly, isn't it supposed to be used constantly in our relationship with God?
I understand if you say that we aren't supposed to idolize the book more than God.

But there is countless evidence of it, and very little to no evidence of a big bearded dude in the sky wearing a nightgown...

Perhaps you missed where I said I accept the theory.  Are you sure you're not just wanting to argue?

Besides, I've never understood why it has to be God or evolution, and why it can't be both.  I accept natural selection, but I still think that bearded guy in the nightgown is behind it (though I don't really think of him that way).

If we don't take it as a literal, 144-hour timeline, the creation story in Genesis actually matches up surprisingly closely with what scientists think.  The water came first, then the land, then plants, then animals (starting with the aquatic ones, then moving to terrestrial ones), then finally humankind.  That's basically the same order as the scientific account of the formation of the earth and life on it.

Sorry for intruding, but this debate was just too intriguing.
Christians genuinely helping homosexuals and other very lost souls is a big theme in my current manga project...

I don't know if this is true but it's certainly interesting to reflect on I heard that it took somewhere around 7 billion years for the earth to finally form which would mean each billion year would equal 1 day for God

Ironic isn't it? I think it's pretty neat

I also really agree with what HarmonicSonic said that it's IS possible to have certain theories of evolution and God merge into one sound theory. It makes too much sense

Sorry I'm just now seeing this comment (I never got a notification).  I, too, would like to hear your reasoning for why gay people are "lost souls".

I agree with everything you just said except for two: It took about 4.5 billion years for the Earth to form, and how exactly are gays "lost souls"? They were born that way...

It's impossible to love your neighbor as much as God does, so we love them as much as we love themselves instead. God is Love Himself.

I love this stamp, though!

I LOVE YOU FOR THIS!

hey ain't God said that He loves everyone? ain't He told us that we shouldn't hate people just because their religion is different? ain't he told us NOT to force our beliefs on people? THEN WHY ALL THE TERROR AND ETC IS ALL AROUND THIS WORLD?
Gee, Muslim terrorists must read Qur'an again. I'm sure I did in the Libyan war (not all of it for obvious reasons, but you can say most of it) there wasn't ANY part in it that says "we shold kel ho s not moslem!!!1!" well there is, but that was aiming on the past-time Atheists (there's even a part that says, to each has their own religions. we have no rights to convert them. if so, then why all the war(s) in here and there?

CapcomWarrior In reply to ??? [2013-09-14 15:48:52 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. Love God and love your neighbor as you do yourself, there's not a greater set of commandments that this. It is very disheartening that there are some that use teachings of love and wisdom as a weapon to harm others.

Thank you! We just had this discussion in Sunday School not so long ago! I really do try to love people as much as God does, but sometimes the best we can do is love them and treat them in a way that we would like to be loved/treated.

And this is how it is done. It's so nice to find other Christians that know what it is all about. Thank you for sharing what, unfortunately, isn't the typical ideological stance of the loudest among us.

Beautifully done~

We need to remember the Golden Rule as well: Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you.

If we claim we love one group, but despise another, we are not good Christians at all. We are also taught to love our enemies and to pray for them.

It's sad how people who think that just because they claim they have a title, that they are that title. It goes beyond just words.

Not a Christian or a theist, yet this is a goal of mine. Admittedly it is difficult, perhaps moreso without a god to guide me - but I am aspiring for it. For now, still in the process of learning humility.

I must remember some people however that loving everyone is not an excuse to make a blind eye to their mistakes. You can call a mistake of someone and still love him.

This stamp really says alot! I had called myself a Christian for a long time without truly knowing what it meant. It was only when I started reading the Bible that it all began to click. I now know that it's not about ritual behavior and just saying that you believe in Jesus. Although it is not bad to go to church, or wear christian jewelry it just is not the Christ's purpose for us. I know I still have a life time of learning ahead of me but I look forward to it so that I might be able to live the life I was made to lead! Thankyou so much for making this stamp and making Christians (myself included) think about how we live our lives.
