Somehow I think Ichigo would just let the book gather dust, before someone threatened his family and suddenly found themselves at the wrong end of a moving vehicle.
Light is difficult to tell as to what he would do, but he didn't have delusions of godhood until he had the Death Note, so I don't think he would have gotten those delusions with powers of a Soul Reaper, since he isn't allowed to affect the world of the living without permission, or in a serious fight with Hollows, and would probably be killed, or locked up, by other Soul Reapers for killing living humans, regardless of whether they were evil or not.
