|| Good Listener || Conciliatory || Friendly at heart || Modest || Fearful and Distrusting || Stubborn || Antisocial ||

Fraidy is a very pessimistic, twitchy man. He is very reclusive and, often rejects new experiences and interactions, finding solace in the familiar. He's a very straight-laced fellow, he doesn't smoke, hardly drinks, and has never touched any drugs in all nearly thirty years of his life. He's naturally incredibly clumsy, and this is usually amplified during the times when his anxiety flares up, as it caused him to tremble and often loose his ability to do things that require precise control over his motor skills, so he relies on his magic heavily during these to operate. He is emotionally very closed off from people, and very fearful and distrusting of those around him, especially those larger than him. He is incredibly terrified of dragons, disliking them greatly for their very large size and many dangerous and sharp features, and when possible he completely avoids them and cuts off any interactions he is forced to do with them as soon as he can. Despite all this, he is not a bad person, and he does care about the wellbeing of others. He is a very good listener, and is very good at comforting others and offering advice that might help them. For the few that are able to get through his very skittish exterior, he is a good friend. He prefers small social gatherings and can be somewhat difficult to get out of the house, as he does not like trying new things and gets stressed easily in areas that have lots of people.

Backstory

Fraidy Cat was the last child born to Bee's Knees and Horse's Mouth following his older sister of five years, Puppy Love. He had a very standard foalhood as "the quiet kid" of his school. He never really gave his teachers any trouble, and tended to forego or straight up avoid playtime with the other students to do more solitary and quiet activities like drawing, reading, or small one to three player games. Having been born into a family of animal fanatics, they were elated when he got his cutie mark in the field of animal handling, but he was not so sure. While his family wanted him to take up a career in an animal-related field like them to fully utilize his special talent, he was not so sure. As much as he did genuinely like animals, and as much as he was able to click with them, he was never able to see himself dealing with them long-term, much to his family's chagrin. When the time came, he began to seek job opportunities outside of the various fields that dealt with animals, which made his family greatly unhappy. The stress, compounded with the heavy pushback he faced with his family led to a rapidly worsening development in his anxieties, which caused various aspects of his life to suffer as a result, and he spent a year completely hiding from the rest of the world. During a confrontation concerning his job and his future, while discussing how he had yet to find a fulfilling job, his mother made a very aggressive, backhanded comment about dropping him off at the morgue to find a job, which, bizarrely enough, sparked some interest in Fraidy. After forcing himself to seek it out, he found that he actually enjoyed the often solitary, safe and steady work, and knew he had found a calling he was happy to pursue. He decided that dealing with strangers was better than dealing with his family and packed up moving to another town to undergo an apprenticeship as a funeral director and mortician. For the years he studied he was not contacted by his family, and silently understood his estrangement. Unable to face them once more, he again moved to start up his own business somewhere where he wouldn't compete with the kind folks who helped him get his start.

Though he had been sitting at his desk for a while, the sun was only now beginning to crest over the trees that seemed to strand the town like an island lost in a leafy, fruit-bearing sea. His funeral home was a safe place for him, a neutral ground where he did not have to approach others, but instead they approached him, and he could arrange the terms of their meeting. It was a level of control not granted to him outside of the home, but one he often desired to have. When he felt certain situations escaping the bounds that he felt comfortable, he often found himself coming back to the home. It was a crutch of sorts, but one that helped him cope. A bad habit he was happy to keep coming back to. He put down the knitting needles he had been mindlessly toiling with for the past hours while the anxiety that vexed him while he tried to sleep had been rearing its ugly head once more. With the sun now high enough in the sky that it peeked over the curtained window to his office and in through the smaller accent window that sat on the wall just above it, he checked the clock, and the hand clicked just two minutes away from open. Though nobody was exactly revving to visit the funeral parlor at seven in the morning, he liked having things orderly, so he got down from his chair to make sure everything was ready to open. He entered the clean, dim main room. With some hesitation, he clicked the lights on, squinting as the brightness of the new lights surprised him with just how bright they were. After his eyes adjusted, he plodded over to the wall where the door was and drew open the deep red curtains, letting the unpredictable, wide outside world peek into his own save world. As he flipped the small sign in the window to indicate the official opening for the day, his eyes drifted to the sign outside. "Sleepy Grove Funeral Home" the sturdy, shiny new wooden sign advertised boldly, and just below it a slightly more obviously temporary sign claimed in more meek letters "Now hiring, inquire inside." With much of the world still asleep, save for the trees and maybe a few other odd folk who, like him, had sleep escape them, he was comfortable just taking a moment to rest in the window, and look out at the world from behind the safety of the glass. No matter what, his eyes were drawn back to the sign, and he stared at it for a long while. Despite his satisfaction and comfortable understanding of his profession, he couldn't help but feel a grim thought creep into his mind whenever he opened for work in the mornings. What was the logic of opening a funeral parlor in a newly budding town full of young, able-bodied ponies and other creatures? What did the others think of him? Did they think he was a wicked warlock, hiding away in the dark home at the end of one of the otherwise cheerier districts, waiting for one of them to die so he could snatch them up and play with their corpse? He tried to shake the thoughts, he knew how irrational he could be, but he couldn't help but worry. He just hoped that soon he would get some prospective job applicants, even if he rejected the thought of having to interview them, he knew he would have to do it. He hadn't gotten a single soul interested in any kind of job or even any sort of affiliations yet, and that thought was almost more worrying than the thought of the rest of the town despising him. Almost.
