Description
Ratbat actually had a MUCH larger roll in the old pulp Marvel comics than he/it ever did in the cartoons or current series or rolls. If you can believe it - this little cassette bot was actually leader of the Decepticons at one point in the Marvel story line!! Don't ask me how - I don't have that series of issues, I only have a few of those old comics left lying around.I changed Ratbat's color scheme dramatically. I didn't like a bright pink and purple bat ... yeh, that is a little silly isn't it? I went with a more natural Bat-like color scheme for Ratbat: browns, greys, and some red and yellow.
Now - I could have just probably cut up the body pieces on my main still of Ratbat - the end frame after he transforms from cassette to bat. And just simply moved/ flash "tweened" the wings up and down to make them "move". I did that with some of his pieces - to incorporate subtle movement in the parts where it is needed: Ears, feet, head. But the wings - the hardest parts ... FEH! I'm a glutton for punishment and tediousness and overly anal about making true animation. So I went with making hand-made wing flaps. I studied the motion from long, boring griffin rides in WoW. Hope it looks alright ... deciding to make the wings truly flap than just tween up and down I think define a real animator from a Flash trickster. I like to use a blend of Flash help and traditional hand drawn animation. Flash can do a lot of things - but it can't do everything. That's where I come in.
Thing is - I don't want to spend a whole lot of time fussing on this little guy. I want to move onto the rest of the stuff. Ratbat plays such a small part in this episode. I just need to get him done and over with!
To play it - Push the Decepticon symbol button in the corner - I've been perfecting my Flash movie play options. I need preloader, and I do like to make a button for playing and replaying - I don't favor the autoplay really.

sweet! the animation is really good. i agree yes, Ratbat did play the leader role in the Marvel comics, especially Megatron: Origin. he looked totally different in that series.

Yeah I can see where the wings can be a pain in the neck to tween, you did well with this
