Kim Possible was a huge success for Disney. It was one of the highest rated and most watched shows on the channel. It was even the longest running Disney channel original series until it was later dethroned from Phineas and Ferb. Even all these years later the show is still popular. Has a legacy so strong that it got a live action movie in 2019 and a reboot is reportedly in the works. So what makes this show so special to many?

I think the reason why this show is so unique is because of how there are many similar aspects to old media but never did it feel tired or uninteresting. We've seen the double life trope countless times before, and this show makes it feel FRESH. The show has subtle self awareness and a distinct sense of identity. Like, pretty much everyone in the school knows Kim Possible's heroic side. She's even on good terms with the government and law enforcement! Even on her own she's an amazing protagonist. On her highschool life we can relate to her insecurities and non-issues, and on her crime fighting life she's a badass! This show has great action scenes and memorable side characters. I really like her sidekick (and later boyfriend) Ron who gains new skills across the series but I also just appreciate their families and how simple yet interesting they all are. This show isn't overly serious, and it doesn't need to be! Just having these characters interact with each other and go on engaging missions is just enough for this fun series. Oh and the villains, splendid. They're sometimes even better than the secondary characters. Dr. Drakken and Shego are my favorites, yeah yeah obvious picks but I don’t care, all their scenes are golden. The show is surprisingly really funny.

The show was originally ending after the second film "So the Drama" but because of how well received Kim Possible had, it got revived for a fourth and final season. I can see people not liking this revival that much because it is different, there is less action and less Kim. But personally? I love it as much as seasons 2-3. Continuing after So the Drama made the series very interesting, Kim and Ron's relationship and other previous character arcs have only been getting better and better since the movie. This season still sparks new questions and storylines and the series finale "Graduation" was an even stronger conclusion than So the Drama, which is really saying something. The show could have easily ended in season 3 but the revival proved to us that the writers still had a lot to show and I'm grateful for it.

Overall this show is GREAT. It's clever and funny that goes easy on the morals. Kim Possible was peak female empowerment in the 2000s, not just because she was a female, she was an actual character. She was a good role model for both young and older audiences. The live action movie unfortunately, didn't understand that and was a really cringe GIRL POWER awkward fest. The movie had some decent aspects, like some of the acting was okay and there were a few good jokes but the overall product was very messy and poorly thought out. I'm not much excited for the reboot either, I think if they needed to make one they should have done it a long time ago, or better yet just leave it alone after the fantastic finale. But maybe I'm just getting sick of all these reboots coming out these days, I just hope the reboot will be good and justify it coming back.
