Description
This was taken when we were vending at Up Your Alley (also known as Dore Alley), a leather/fetish street fair in San Francisco. Kat was helping us out as a boothie, wearing an outfit I had recently completed for her.Top: The halter top is made with 3/8", 16 gauge bright aluminum, in a European 6-in-1 for the cups and a 4-in-1 for the body. The edging is in black annodized aluminum, in 3/8", 5/16" and 1/4" rings, all 16 gauge, using a variant of Byzee Bees. It laces up the back with a piece of leather thong.
Bottom: The bottom is made almost entirely with 1/4", 18 gauge rings. The front is stainless steel in a European 6-in-1, edged in annodized aluminum half persian, merging into full persian for the chains. I say almost because it also has a few rubber rings inserted to add stretch and make it fit better.
To answer the most common questions ahead of time:
Yes, the bottom has a chain up the back, and no, it was not uncomfortable, according to Kat.
Yes, the bottom is lined. Kat stitched in a satin lining herself.
No, the top is not lined. The weave is dense enough to be nearly opaque, and according to Kat it didn't pinch at all.

well... i dont really blame her (or anyone) for saying this isnt comfortable (i doubt a chain up your butt would be anyways), but this looks pretty cool, crazy job with the chainmail (and i still have no idea how to make one D

Actually, she said it was NOT uncomfortable, surprisingly enough.
Honestly, most of the discomforts people expect with chainmail don't really occur. It rarely pinches, it doesn't usually catch hair all that badly, and it takes a LOT for it to burn you while wearing it in the sun.

oh, lol i've must have read wrong
well i never actually expected chainmail to pinch, since it's usually woven rather tightly and the rings are small and smooth, hair *should* get out easily, since it's not much more than a net, and since it's steel (or whetever other metal may be used), it should slip rather easily (by any chance, have you ever tried making a knot with straight hair?)
well, burning i did think it would do, but it would be kinda funny because te chainmail would leave burns that looked like fish scales XD

Thing is, the chainmail bleeds the heat into your skin as quickly as it absorbs it. It's rather different then if the metal were just left sitting in the sun by itself. It is possible to get burnt by it, but by the time you do you would have garnered a much worse sunburn already.
The real problem with wearing metal against skin is not heat but cold. It's fine so long as you're outside on a nice warm, still day. But a good gust of wind will instantly leech all the heat out of the metal, leaving it suddenly freezing.

well then i guess it's pretty much impossible to go take a swim without freezing to death after coming out?

Well, yes... Despite what one might suspect from the name, chainmail bikinis are NOT in fact recommended for swimwear.
