I don't know why, but ponies and flowers can get a laugh out of me every time. I guess the fact that flowers for them can treated both as humans treat and appreciate them (by using them for decoration, gifts, smelling) and as real life horses do (as food) helps to reassert the fact that, yes, the characters you've grow so familiar with these past two to three years are still talking horses. It redefines the line between what is human and what is equine about the characters and that heightening focus can surprise one so much that they find the shock funny, if only to cope. ^_^
